Oh lawd.

Is this going to be yet another SARS style epidemic? Not again.

I hope it mutates into some sort of zombie virus. Left 4 Dead IRL! F*CK YEAH! :D

Or like "T" virus in Resident evil whereby some psychotic computer would try and quarantine all of the infected area and stuff like that.

On a serious note, does anyone actually think it'll be really bad? Or do you just think it'll "die out" shortly?

Depends if it’s an air brick or not, I suppose.

Hopefully everyone will make lots of fuss about it and it'll crawl away again.

I like to think it'll be really big for a little while and then pass, like the lymes disease outbreak about 7 years ago. In reality, I don't think anyone can predict. It seems like it's just a matter of time before something really bad does come along though, so if not now, we might be having this discussion again in 5 years when the next big thing hits us.

Latest, two tourists have come back from Mexico to Scotland and been quarantined due to flu-like symptoms. I guess we'll see.

It will be interesting to see how this one pans out, plus how the media responds and reports on it, with the economy in the state it is, I really don't think anyone want's what could possibly happen, I think it would be best if the media actually reported it as is, not exaggerate things. We don't want a country of even more worried people.

Latest reports are scientists are telling everyone we're in a good place to cope with it - for now.

There's plenty of vaccines being produced, and most countries have been quick to implement checks at airports and ports. What's likely to hit hardest is if it really takes hold and complications set in, like pneumonia and stuff. If there are more sick people than space and carers to cope with them, then it gets nasty.

Me? I'm not doing a Corporal Jones just yet, but keeping an eye on it.

If it is, it's classic timing given the state of the global economy. Pestilence and famine have arrived, war has been with us for a while now....who was the 4th horseman?

The last one is Death.

Surprisingly.

The thing is, the world's population of humans is too high. Nature is doing its best to keep us in check, but because we're too clever for our own good, we keep finding ways around it.

Each attack by Nature will be harder until we finally get the message and let things takes their course. Sadly, it will mean those less privileged will be hit hardest, but there's nothing anyone can do about that.

Whoa! That's a bit maudlin for a Monday morning. Sorry, folks.

I agree with HeatherKay. Nature has a way of keeping everything in line, and as much as we think we can change things, in the end Nature will win. If this is going to turn into something bad, then there will not be enough drugs for everybody and it will be survival of fittest. Im of to get some practise on Left For Dead just incase ;)

Hmmm, for once I'm not involved.
I was in Hong Kong when the SARS outbreak started there.

Well, it must fairly serious since our travel advisory service has just advised us not to send anyone to any of the infected areas on business. I've also discovered that it is less serious as long as you get it treated with anti-virals quickly, if you leave it to get well-established you could end up in trouble.

Sooner or later something will come along that we can't just "deal" with. Nature is a great "leveller"
