| | | | Quote: Earlier this week, Hugo Weaving gave an interview to Collider in which he fleetingly mentioned his work on Transformers, and was less than complimentary about the experience.
“It was one of the only things I’ve ever done where I had no knowledge of it,” said Weaving. “I didn’t care about it, I didn’t think about it. They wanted me to do it. In one way, I regret that bit. I don’t regret doing it, but I very rarely do something if it’s meaningless.”
Never one to let a perceived slight go unanswered, Michael Bay has since taken to his blog to give Weaving some back, criticising him for taking the paycheque if the film was so awful.
“Do you ever get sick of actors that make $15 million a picture, or even $200,000 for voiceover work that took a brisk one hour and 43 minutes to complete, and then complain about their jobs?” muses Bay.
“With all the problems facing our world today, do these grumbling thespians really think people reading the news actually care about trivial complaints that their job wasn’t ‘artistic enough' or 'fulfilling enough'? I guess The Hollywood Reporter thinks so.
“What happened to people who had integrity, who did a job, got paid for their hard work, and just smiled afterward? Be happy you even have a job - let alone a job that pays you more than 98% of the people in America.
“I have a wonderful idea for all those whiners: They can give their ‘unhappy job money’ to a wonderful elephant rescue. It’s the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Africa. I will match the funds they donate.”
UPDATE: Bay has since removed the comments from his blog.
http://www.totalfilm.com/news/michael-b ... -criticismThey're both right, but I suspect Bay deleted his post more because he was afraid of getting his offer taken up

I hate to say it but I'm kind of siding with Bay. Acting is not a hard job. It's not a hard job physically - bricklaying is. It's not a hard job emotionally - try being a trauma counsellor or a hospice nurse. It's not a hard job intellectually either.
It's being paid to say things when most often somebody else has already told you what to say. OK, you have to figure out how to say them but often you get more than one try at doing it. It's not complete money for old rope, it requires certain skills - to be able to project an emotion, a decent memory etc but a fairly large number of people get paid millions of pounds to do it.
So really, I do get utterly fed up with actors who get paid sums out of all proportion to the actual effort involved bitching about 'their art'. You have a pretty damn decent life, at least have the good grace to be pleased about it.

It makes you wonder if Megan Fox was right about Michael Bay? I do think that actors might sign on for a project but find the role that they signed on for looking very different to the one that is the end result. Weaving is a brilliant actor but not an A list that can demand ridiculous terms. Directors can be prima donnas as well.

Saw it at weekend. Still trying to persuade myself that Cruise can play Reacher. Not having any luck at all. The size of his hand as he grabs the arm rest for a start. Looks like a kids hand *sigh*

* * *Other gossip sites are available. | | | | Quote: Stephen Colbert to Make Cameo in 'The Hobbit'
"The Comedy Central host and "Lord of the Rings" fan will appear in Peter Jackson's 'Hobbit' trilogy.
Stephen Colbert will make a cameo in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, a knowledgeable source confirms to The Hollywood Reporter. The host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report is a huge J.R.R. Tolkien and Lord of the Rings fan who reads Elvish. No word on which role he'll play in the franchise or whether it will be a key character or just part of the background. Colbert's cameo will not come in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, according to the source. The first film in Jackson and Warner Bros.' trilogy hits theaters Dec. 14 with a cast that includes Martin Freeman, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, Orlando Bloom, Benedict Cumberbatch and Andy Serkis. The second film, The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, arrives Dec. 13, 2013, while the third, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will be released July 18, 2014. Colbert teases an appearance in the films in the November issue of Playboy, acknowledging his visit to the New Zealand shoot. "Peter Jackson invited me to the set last year," he said. "I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I'm a big fan of the films." When asked if he was hired as an extra, Colbert smiled; and in response to the question, "Are you telling us you're in the Hobbit movie?" he responded, with another smile, "Could be." Earlier this month, Colbert appeared on Oprah's Next Chapter to promote his latest book, America Again, revealing the origins of his faux-conservative television persona as a combination of Fox News hosts Bill O'Reilly and Geraldo Rivera and CNN's Anderson Cooper. "I like to say that he's well intentioned, poorly informed, high-status idiot," he joked about his Report character.
