I think living on your own is going to be out. Shared house is probably the best option to consider.

Australia is pricey, but the wages there more than make up for it.

My niece is paying around £1400 pcm for a 2-bed in SE22; round here (W12) you'd pay that kind of money for a 1-bed :/

[LIFTED] that! I pay just over half of that for a mortgage on a three bedroom semi with a huge garden.

Bexhill in Sussex renting £450 for a 1 bed £650 for 2. Our bills are £300/month on top of a reasonable £326/month mortgage on a 2 bed 1st floor flat right in the town centre.

I feel like weeping when I see what people in other parts of the UK pay in rent. And no, it is not overcome by London salary weighing.

It's been a while, but I seem to recall paying about £300 (rent only, no bills) for a room in a shared house in Maidenhead. Detached, gardens, 5 beds, drive way and garage.

Yes rents generally are ridiculous. Just a consequence of a property bubble. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Don't know what Woking is like now, but I was in a 49M² flat there in 2002 (1.5 bed) and that cost me 1,200UKP a month, plus utilities. The 90M² flat in Munich for 200 a month less was a bargain after that!
Then I moved to Bramsche and a 110M² flat was 300UKP a month...

I'd dream of paying half the rents that seem to be listed here! I think in and around London the prices for small/entry-level flats are particularly inflated, with so many people wanting every single place. Once you can afford to rent a slightly bigger/higher-end place, you start to get slightly better value for money (not that you wouldn't still get double the floor space in other parts of the country).

Yes the bottom end of the market is particularly bad value. It has not been helped by the government cramming benefit recipients in to the same segment as low income people so now they are all competing for a small segment of rentable properties. This is driving up rents at the bottom, taking money from the poorest and giving it to the rich.

But to be fair you're paying far too much for that flat. Based on the fact I'm only 25 mins from Waterloo on the train, you could have a large 2 bed flat with porter & gardener for less than what you're paying now. You could live in W5 for £800 a month and save 50% in CT as well

We're fairly restricted in terms of location with me needing to get to Hertfordshire and LaFrenchUn needing to get into central London. With a bit of luck, next time we need to find somewhere we'll have a bit more time to locate it and may be able to be more flexible on location, but where we are now what we are paying is pretty much the going rate.

So generally the economy rocks and rent is cheap? Fair generalisation?
