Yup, I'd agree. It's a bit of a battery. Nice lead plates and a positive terminal.

My first thought was that they are lead plates, but it may be a very early wet cell. Can't tell without examining the plates to see what the metal is. In that last picture it looks like there's wooden spacers between the plates, which is cute.

Glass bottle - isn't that a childs bottle? There'd be a rubber nipple on one end. Maybe I'm wrong.

The last three shots - that's a bit of wood with a hole in it.

Edit - your 'torture' device is more than likely a bit of plumbing paraphernalia. Looks like a pipe bracket to me, not a snare or a trap.
