I'm sure the next solar eclipse will more than make up for it!

I've had the power steering on a car go when on the M61. That was... Interesting. Amazing how hard even a small car is to drive without PS once you're used to it.

GF's mum has a fiat panda. I can't believe a car that small has power steering to start with, yet alone a 'city' option to make it even easier.

The belt snapped as I was approaching a corner, which made for an exciting few moments. It was bloody hard work steering it all the way home, even more so trying to park it.

£120 for a new alternator and belt, which wipes out the money I had saved towards my next graphics card.


I remember Top Gear reviewing that - they called it the girlie button iirc.

My little Fiat has electric power steering. As it has slightly sporty style wide tyres, when the PS trips out for some reason it can be hard work turning them.

PS on small front wheel drive cars seems quite sensible to me. All the weight is on the front wheels. Why make it hard to steer as well?

A friend had a Chevrolet G20 day van.
On a trip to Birmingham, the tensioner pulley went, stripped the serpentine belt and left him doing about 50mph on the motorway with no power steering and a dying engine.
Those tyres are 235/75/15's, and the van weighs about 3000kgs empty.

Modern cars are so heavy that PS has some use, and whether it is a small or large car makes little difference. But a switch to provide an extra boost on a tiny car?

Persoanlly I don't mind the lack of PS on smaller cars, it gives much more feedback as to what the tyres are doing on the road.

A friend in Exeter was carrying her taxidermy Golden Eagle down the road (for reasons unknown at present), when the Google Maps car drives past.

I really hate it when you're enjoying a film and then they start using completely unrealistic and impossible technology. It goes from being a good film to a [LIFTED] one in an instant.

Let's just zoom that up way beyond the original image's resolution, take a 3d scan of the nose from a 2d image, then match it to a 3d scan of the nose from a different 2d image of the other side of the nose and have the computer declare a hundred per cent match and send in the swat team.

Sounds legit.

Then they kill off the double hard bastard trainer of the main character without showing how. Basically the writers painted themselves into a corner, they made the heroes too hard and had to bring in either ludicrous plot points or just give up and let us imagine it to bring any sort of drama to it. Luc Besson's star has dimmed somewhat for me after this film.
