I would prefer to eat an over buttered side of baguette than under buttered.

This was the equivalent of a week's worth of butter! Too much for anyone!

What is the daily amount of fat someone is meant to consume? I've always been curious.

Watch the Hairy Dieters tonight :)

....stick within healthy eating guidelines, you should have no more than 70g fat a day if you’re having around 2,000 calories daily.

I've been at around 3g of sat fat a day for the last 6 months, it's not easy!

After seeing the hairy ones my bloke now wants to loose weight. He thinks skipping meals is a good way but I've tried telling him!

Counting calories and moving more - any other tips?

I don't eat 2000 cals a day. I think I cruise around 1300. I think people should be careful with guidelines, if i ate that much I'd put on a stone a year :S.

otherwise : I havent had any white bread in weeks and feeling so much better for it :)

do low fat version of dishes. Gizzy Erskine's show on 4od is a good one.
Otherwise I'll give you my recipe of haggis lasagna :D
Get a good non stick pan so you don't need to fry stuff in oil, even possibly a george.
Eating courgette instead of pasta is a good one too.
Staying away from cereals and having toast with low fat spread.
No Starbucks! a cup there will send you back 500+ cals.
Soya/sheep/goats products have a lot less sugar than cow's milk and can be very tasty too.

Can you post that regardless, that sounds like a marvellous idea. I looooove haggis.

The hairy ones did low fat lasagne last week and it's not his favourite dish. I am trying to train him to eat more healthily as he's a bacon sandwich / pile on the potatoes kind of guy. I guess the fact he wnats to loose weight is the first step.

We bought a 5Kg haggis last Burns' Night, so we had loads of spare (even with 4 of us, considering one was a veggie). I can't remember the recipe, but it was awesome. Basically tomato-y sauce mixed with haggis, and then standard recipe. Om nom nom nom.

Bacon sandwich- lower fat :
Cut the rind and tail off, leaving only the eye of the meat. Dry fry or grill.
Brown bread (esp granary), thin sliced with low fat spread or low fat mayo.
baked potato instead of chips.

The haggis lasagna had courgette strips instead of lasagna sheets which works well.
haggis was mixed with tinned tomatoes and lots of veg (leftover swede, carrots, peas... )

low fat cheese sauce, my mum's way : melt low fat spread in a saucepan, stir in cornflour, then add boiling hot WATER (or half water half skimmed milk). had a little very strong cheddar, season with pepper.
the Edd is not a fan of this one but I grew up with it so I find it normal and the normal stuff way too rich.

Actually, did you see that Horizon programme earlier this week? It discussed the health effects of controlled fasting. The presenter (who was an MD) was skeptical at first. He found the full on regime too hard, but doing an alternate day regime - eat normally one day, limit to one meal of 600 calories the next - he lost something like a stone in 6 weeks and he wasn't particularly big to begin with. Plus several blood chemicals which are indicators of the likelihood of things like Altzheimer's were reduced.

Starving yourself obviously is bad. However if you can cut 3000 calories out of your diet a week, in theory you'll lose a pound a week in weight. Equally if you can burn 3000 more calories in a week. If you can manage only having one meal every other day and there are no long term detrimental effects (which the programme was very careful to say the scientists studying the effects hadn't proved one way or another yet) it seems as good a mechanism for achieving that as any.
