Perhaps we need more of this:

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

They already have big signs around Holborn saying the Olympic lanes are open for all traffic.

So that's empty seats, and now not enough cars on the roads. Crikey. Utter shambles.

As you seem to be violently adverse to any story if it comes from the Daily Mail, I thought I'd put one originating from another source.

The Mail's a rag, to be certain, but 'not enough cars on roads' isn't news no matter the source. It's whinging because, apparently, some people just want to complain about the Olympics.

I don't think it's especially unfair to point out that the Zil lanes are largely empty, and when Olympic buses go up and down them they too are conspicuously vacant. I just don't think either of these things is ruining the Olympics. I don't care about the games in the least, but I notice there are lots of happy people around these parts who seem to be really getting into them and wearing flags and stuff, so I figure they are not a shambles.
As long as the overwhelming majority of the forum can distinguish between a minor oopsie and a catastrophic fail situation, we can safely mention these things without having to devote too much attention to those among us who are sadly deprived of any sense of proportion.

Did anyone predict that they would be superfluous before the Olympics started? No, in fact I heard no-one predict that the roads would be congestion-free and public transport would operate better than normal. At the end of the day, It's hardly a damning criticism to say that the organisers over-prepared for an eventuality that didn't present itself, and have since reversed their decision.
To me, that's good organisation, thinking and preparation at every stage, it's better to have extra capacity and then pull it back to match the reality, than to be swamped and then have to put in place ad hoc remedies.
In short, I believe it deserves no negative criticism at all, and I agree that it exemplifies more a tendency to sensationalise and moan rather than poor organisation at The Olympics, which so far have succeeded in spreading goodwill and entertaining the world.

The olympic lanes were brought in as part of the transport plan for the games, which is mandatory for any application to host. This was included after the Los Angeles games where traffic issues were so bad that competitors were unable to get to the stadium in time for events, thus being unable to compete. I'd rather have the lanes than athletes missing out due to logistics issues.

Well, it's starting to look like this thread should be renamed "Olympics - Epic Succeed"

It would certainly be a more accurate description of reality as a result.
