Without Damon, I'd need somebody really interesting to hold my interest in this project. The photography was beautiful, but in the time since I've watched it I've come to realise it was more about spectacle than excellent writing.

Also, if Ridley's the man with the ideas who wants to talk about God and existence and the universe, I wanna see him write the bloody thing with that more to the fore.

It's hard to tell, but I got the impression that the studio was using Damon to curtail Ridley's maybe not so commercial ideas. Either way, the film threw up some serious questions within the Alien universe never mind our own :)

The best of Ridleys work all fits perfectly with what you just said.
I think the reason why Ridley gets away with this more than possibly any other film-maker is that he integrates the world where the action is taking place in to the plot; it almost becomes another character.
I think very few of his strongest films have particularly strong scripts.

Interesting. Never thought of it like that.

Damon writes good stories. The questions were there, but barely and not nearly as much as I'd have liked.

That's odd because Ridley is a very commercial film-maker. I can't imagine him wanting to add things that the studio would think weren't commercially viable but then I'm not the one providing a quarter of a billion bucks to fund his films. (8+)

To be fair, a bit of 'ak akakak' might have imposed it.

Just seen an advert for the BluRay release. The appears to be an alternate ending and beginning, which means (if my finger counting is correct) you can view 4 variations of the film.

Saw an advert in Tesco for the BD. The tagline was "answers are coming". I laughed to myself.
