I've no doubt the civil service could be more efficient in a lot of areas, but I've also no doubt the Tories would like to eventually just hand it over to an approved friend. Run it more like a business? That's worked out so well for the 'consumer' in the past.

Having seen the disasterous way in which Doncaster Council is run, I think this is a good idea.
They need to get the right people for the jobs, rather than follow stupid PC guide lines.
eg. When they last "restructured" at my mums work, they gave the top job in the department to a young girl with absolutely no experience or expertise in that area at all, rather than the bloke who'd been running it successfully for years. All because of their stupid policy of everything being based on the interview, not qualifications and previous work.

There are already processes in place to get rid of under-performing members of staff, I'm not sure what the government's intending to do to "make it easier".

If he honestly believes that statement then there some of his members that are blatently telling porkies to him.

You get under-performing members of staff in every business. However, the ideas in the popular press that somehow the civil service is lazy and unproductive, are, frankly, [LIFTED].

I'm not saying that the civil service is lazy and unproductive but Mr Serwotka seems to believe that theres no underperformance, according to his statement. Which is quite frankly unbeleivable.

I don't think they're lazy, I think managment hobble them with rediculous rules and policies that hold them back and massively reduce productivity.
