As is changing a nappy Apart from a couple of times, I've only ever changed 'proper' nappies. I still don't get why someone wouldn't learn how to do something as important as change a nappy. You must have friends with babies, surely?

I can patch things up and once did a bit of cross stitch as a gift for Nic (it was a Valentines gift I started a couple of weeks before, not realising how long it takes. It was finished by her birthday in August!).

With the current weather I'm suddenly glad that the previous owners installed a ceiling fan in our bedroom.

Not really. People mostly stop being sociable when they have babies. A friend's brother's wife had babies, but why would she ever point the sh!tty end at me?! If I ever have babies, then I'll learn how to change nappies. Seriously. It's a life skill that can wait until I need it. You can't surely be implying that it takes years to master, so you need to start practising while you're still young?

+1. I don't know how to change nappies and I don't care to unless I have my own children. It isn't essential and it's not a life skill. It's something that you pick up if you have children and you change their nappies.

I think I saw Adrian Chiles in High Street Kensington. Looking very tanned.

He was famous for a voice that tortured TV speakers.

I have finally been given a desk-top fan at work. Blades are 9" diameter. Is there a good place to locate the fan?

Make sure it's in air and it's pointing at you. A fan in a vacuum pointed away from you is useless.

It's probably also worth pointing out that directing it so that cool air is blown towards you, so sitting it on top of a radiator (for instance) would be self defeating.

As would having the radiator on the other side of the fan of course. In fact it's probably a good idea if neither you nor the fan are close to a radiator.

We use reusables, but they're a far cry from the square that had to be folded into some sort of triangle and held by a massive pin that my mum used when I was small. They're nappy shaped with Velcro tabs. I'm no environmentalist btw, I'm just tight and my wife's happy to wash them. Saves us an absolute fortune.
