Disagree. 30-70 is more useful as a measure of torque and power. There aren't many times when you floor it from the traffic lights just to get to 30 mph.

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm not specifically using it as a measure of torque and power, just as being where you want the torque and power to be usefully available and being more use than absolute top speed.

I like the look of the Toyota Auris and the Skoda Octavia (mk II), but then I'm a horrendously boring individual. The new Astra is very nice too (three door version in black).

Have you looked inside the Auris? It's scratchy horrible plastic. I've got an older Corolla, but I'd never replace it with the current Auris. Let's just hope the new model next year has a better interior.

I had to drive a Hyundai i30 for work the other week. It made me want to take up walking.

I suspect my next car will have a large boot. Two kids 'n all.

Not planning a Next Car, but I’d like a Morris Minor (preferably a Traveller) as a second car - if I could afford it and there was somewhere to park it.

OK, you don't own the car at the end but it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

So did you subtract what you'd be able to sell the car for?

Looking at it that way...

Contract Hire for 3 years...
36 * £450 = 16200
2 years road tax = 300
Total outlay after 3 years = 16500

Buying with a loan and then selling after 3 years... (based on a 5 year loan for 27000 at 12% APR)
36 * £600 = 21600
Remainder of loan = 12700
Road Tax for 3 years = £450
Car Resale Value after 3 years = Maybe 12700 (just guessing and made it easier by making the same as remainder of loan)
Total outlay after 3 years = 22050 after selling the car and using it to pay off the remainder of the loan.

If there are any figure that are completely out let me know :D

The car would have to have a resale value of 20000 after 3 years for purchase/sale to be the same as contract hire.

They won't distract you if they are in the boot :P

I drove an auto once when I had a courtesy car. Bloody thing was possessed.

I'd quite like Saga Noren's Porsche. Or at least one in that colour.

I do too, though they have desaturated the colour so much it’s probably a bite more vibrant than you’d expect.

What do you think it is Paul, a 912 or later?

Dunno. I'm not a Porsche connoisseur, but wisdom on the internet says it's 911or a 912, possibly from the 1980s.
