There's a medical thing called 'urethroscopy' which is kind of similar (I'm sure CW can fill in the details). They use it for some bladder & kidney conditions. I've actually had it. The.. I can't call them 'side effects', let's call them 'after effects' - were very unpleasant, for quite a while. Yon fella has my sympathies.

1.2 meters is longer than any urethroscope I should imagine. Unless the guy's bladder was in his neck, that must have perforated a few things on its journey...

Yes a camera can be inserted into the penis to look at either the pipe (urethra ->urethroscopy) or the bladder (cystoscopy) but you use dilators first and LOTS of lubrication. 1.2m of anything is going to be painful. Won't necessary perforate anything - the wire may have just coiled into the bladder and embedded itself.

This was to use ultrasound to shatter a kidney stone, so it was the former I think. I was certainly glad they put me under first. Jon

Depends on where the kidney stone was. The camera has to go through the penis any way. The question is whether they look at the urethra (urethroscopy), the bladder (cystoscopy), or the ureters - the tubes from the kidneys to the bladder where most kidney stones are (ureteroscopy).

This one. Quite along way up apparently (i.e. it had lodged in the tube near the 'kidney end'). Jon
