Actually, once the hollywood accountants get hold of it, that's probably what the books will say.

I thought that read: "Avengers" muscles to record $200 million in debt
The numbers are quite staggering. It cost around $220 million to make and had a marketing budget of around $100 million.
It's looking like the film has taken almost as much in just over a week that Iron Man, Thor and Captain America made together in their total box office.

You know, I can't say that it interests me. I've seen so many costumed superheroes films in the past that I feel I can pass on this and feel I've not missed much.

And with that post above, Paul, you just summed up exactly what I think about the next Batman film.

I've never been a massive fan of the superhero genre and it feels like it's getting ridiculous now.

It gets just a little more staggering … according to The New York Times (here) the film has taken a total box office of $645+ million.
That's not bad for a film that's only a week old.

Ditto the re-booted Spiderman.

Actually, yeah. I'm not interested in that either.
Oddly though, I do still want to see the re-rebooted Superman that'll be out next year.

Spiderman is a reboot of the franchise that's only ten years old, the last film of the three was released in 2007.
Superman Returns was 2006 (had to check Wikipedia for that) so a greater span of time between Superman films than Spiderman films.

It depends on how you look at it, in terms of series run length or series start I guess. Either way, six years doesn't seem like rebooting time to me, just a delayed sequel.

Apart from Prometheus which I'm bound to be disappointed by and American pie the reunion which I guess I want to see out of some sort of nostalgia, everything out there just seems to be utter [LIFTED] and has been for quite a few years. Maybe I'm just getting old!

Or maybe you're just bored of film companies churning out the same old crap instead of taking risks and producing something original? I have read so many amazing books which would make great films.... nuff said

Risks invariably don't make money. For the big studios, it's takings like Avengers has now that helps them take risks on future products.
You talk about reading books that would make great films, but where's the risk there? There's already an in-built audience for the film.
You want risks, you want original material written specifically for the screen, not an easy adaptation of an already existing property.
