In your example unless you only have 1 contactless card in your wallet you will have to "Reach into left pocket, pull out wallet, open wallet, take out card, swip, put card back in wallet, and then put wallet away"

Barclays gave me a contactless bank card and it interfered with my Oyster card.

It shouldn't as they use slightly different technology although you will "soon" be able to use use your bank card to travel and not need an Oyster card at all

OK, so all we need to do is find a half African, half Chinese, half Asian, gay, one eyed, wheelchair bound dwarf with tourettes and a lisp, and a st st stutter and we could make the best panel show ever.

Giving TFL the right to extract money from your bank account with no verification? I can see absolutely nothing that could go wrong with this plan.

I'm sure the idea will quickly move over to all bank cards Dave. Do you pay cash for everything other than internet purposes?

I can just see this now. Someone swipes their card in front of a bowser pump to pay, receives a call and then promptly disappears in a ball of flames.

Except mobile phones won't ever ignite petrol through emitting radiation, ever. The only regulatory reason mobile phones are forbidden on forecourts is because public authorities don't want people to become distracted whilst re-fuelling.
