That doesn't look that good at all. All I think is "Jack Sparrow in an Indian costume"....

It looks rather like 'Kabuki actor being attacked by Raven'. Which is probably a Tai Chi position, thinking about it.

John Carter flop to cost Walt Disney $200m

Quote:
The film, about a military captain transported to Mars, could result in an $80-120m loss for Disney's movie business during the current quarter.

The film has taken no more than $184m at box offices worldwide, with cinema owners receiving about half of that total.

It is difficult to compare losses on films, as studios reveal little financial detail and allowances have to be made for inflation.

The Hollywood Reporter says that last year's biggest flop was Mars Needs Moms, which cost $150m to make and only took $39m at the box office.

From the BBC. I've never even heard of Mars Needs Moms.

You beat me to it! *laugh*
I was just reading about this story. The film cost around $250 million to make and has had around $100 million spent on marketing it.
Seriously, what the [LIFTED] was Disney thinking?!?
None of the John Carter adaptations haver ever done that well, why would Disney think it could turn this around?
Okay, so the director did a couple of big, well loved and well regarded animations, but Disney should've known that spending in excess of $350 million on one film with a patchy celluloid history was never going to be a good idea.
It's all a bit of a puzzle to me, frankly.

Great, so now Hollywood will use this as an excuse to bash out more remakes and sequels.

You'd think they'd have at least done a Cameron - get two studios to split the costs. Something that isn't mentioned of course is that films often eventually make their money back through licencing and disc sales, even when it's got a ridiculous budget like Waterworld, for instance.

Let's not forget that Disney is putting out The Avengers film later this year, so any profits it makes can at least offset a little of what John Carter loses.
