Eight Hundred million euros for a public transport system for ONE CITY? Which (you assume) already has at least some sort of public transport system anyway. What were they doing, buying solid gold buses? Jon

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I think a few things need to happen here. 1) Greece needs to leave the Euro and devalue their currency, that way the cost of visiting/buying thing from Greece will fall, encouraging more trade. 2) They need to implement an PAYE tax system. The amount of tax dodging at the moment is just a massive massive joke. I'm sure there are other things they need to do and the above suggestions will have major issues attached to them, but I can't see any other way out for them.

Bus drivers etc are paid a stupidly high amount in Greece. Together with bonuses for things like "turning up to work early" or "checking tickets". They can earn twice the national average wage.

i think a few things will happen very shortly the bail out money to Greece will be used to pay back French and German banks which are holding a lot Greece's debt Greece has been fleeced and the ECB, French and German banks walk away clean(ish) ... in other news Athens alone has just refinanced, of a sorts, more then €14 billion (that's right 'billion') of debt the hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper ...
