The areas of signal in my new house. Moved in today. I have no broadband as yet, but fairly liberal 3G coverage. Why though when I rest my phone on the sofa armrest do I get 3G and four bars, yet the minute I move it four inches to the left to read or type anything, do I get o coverage (whatever that is, never worked it out) and only get two bars?

You either have signal, or you don't have signal. The different "levels" of signal represented by the bars are defined so arbitrarily as to be quite meaningless, and what's more, every phone manufacturer has different criteria as to what exactly is "full signal".

Yes, I do watch QI.

I'm inclined to believe you, I'm wandering between 1 bar 3G and four bars 'o' and yet browsing and posting seems to be working just as well as when I had wireless.

IIRC, 3G is 3G (obviously), 'E' is Edge ( which is around 0.7Mbits/s) and 'O' is GPRS only. GPRS is about 56Kbits/s isn't it? The mobile equivalent of dialup. Mind you, I remember when that was practically science fiction. Kids today with their HSDPA+...

1) You regularly attempt to reduce people to tears.

2) You are disappointed that you've only succeeded once.

3) You are really saddened that someone recently cried when all you said amounted to just three innocently-meant words.

I honestly can't tell ;)

So I tried one of these on today. Probably as close to wearing pyjamas as you could get for dive gear. Now I just need to try and scrape some funding together.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I remember swimming at school, 30 pupils rescuing 3 rubber bricks at 3m. With all the underwater wrestling I'm surprised nobody drowned.

On my mind at the moment. What the near future holds, having just handed in my notice and moving to Vikingland in a month.
