The Passat 50mpg was over 120,000 miles.

My theory is, if you aren't doing 100% town driving, then a small engine is going to more uneconomical than a "reasonable" engine. Obviously going to the other extreme is going to be worse. But 1.8L - 2.2L, preferably diesel will be more economical and combine that with either start/stop automatic (something you don't get even as an option on most small cars) or hybrid, like the Prius, then you can really get good economy.

I'm not an eco freak, but if I was doing a lot of town driving, I'd seriously look at the Auris hybrid. As it is, I have a 20M drive to and from work, so the Verso diesel is fine (diesel being more economical and 10c a litre less than petrol makes it a no-brainer). The Verso isn't as economical as my old Mondeo, but I got it on medical grounds - the sitting position is much better for my heels (I've had one operated on, the other is now giving me trouble).

Yes but they are now driving trucks like the Ford 150 which is outside the CAFE regulations.

That determine when to stop hitting a HDD is a very tricky thing to do. Should you stop when it's clearly sufficiently destroyed, or when it stops being fun?

When it stops being fun, leave it to one side and then go back to it whenever you need to release some tension. Or failing that, thermite it.

This, basically:

The Top 7... Insanely stupid video game storage media that had no right to work

http://www.gamesradar.com/f/the-top-7-i ... 4527680090

Some were ideas ahead of their time actually. Another one was a step back from Sony

Sounds like it would make a good restoration project. :)

That Play.com has redesigned it's site - this seems to have involved making it look dull as hell and not fixing any of the recent bugs

What is the obsession with everything looking sterile and making you click on pointless options these days?

EDIT - 'More delivery options to suit your needs' had better not translate as 'We're gonna chance our arm and see what we get away with'.
