It's official: Minis are hairdressers' cars

Quote:
If you’ve never heard the term “hairdresser’s car”, it’s essentially a sporty-looking (often convertible) car with performance that doesn’t necessarily live up to its go-fast looks.

And while the Mazda MX-5, Toyota Celica and Audi TT have been labelled hairdressers' cars in the past, a UK study has found that the car most commonly driven by barbers and hairstylists is actually a Mini hatchback.

I don't think it ever was. Old minis (i.e. 60's ones), they were/are cool. The 'new' mini is, let's be honest, a golf in a nice suit and is trying far too hard. Therefore, by definition, not cool.

Doesn't matter who makes the golf, the mini has assumed the role of hot hatch de jour in many ways.

It's am M1 in a Morris Minor sized Mini body. Horrid.

I do remember Jezza saying the Mazda did with the MX5 what MG didn't do - which is make a British sports car.

An M1? The M1 was a georgous 70s racing car, with a 3.5L engine, I don't see anything from the M1 in the Mini...
