I haven't seen that yet. So your question is null and void  ;)

No, Ernie. You're null and void. Get out. Get out now and don't come back until you've seen it.

Just been reading through this thread. Doctor Who had a “dig bad” - it was the Black Guardian in the Key to Time series - the one which introduced Romana I. The Doctor had to locate the Key to Time to stop the universe falling in on itself. The Black Guardian wanted it for his own ends.

Robocop - great film, very dark humour, very relevant then as it is now. Robocop managed to capture the humour of Judge Dredd far better than the Dredd film ever did. I watched it at the cinema. OK, the effects may not stand up to scrutiny today, but the story and ideas meant that they could be forgiven. Remake? It had better be good. And I mean good.

And, just incase it didn’t escape your attention, there is a new Dredd film in production.

I want to call you a bad egg, but it's more of a Bratty comment, isn't it?

You've reminded me of a bloke in school. Knowing he was a gamer, I asked him had he played Earthworm Jim. He said 'YES!' in a really sarky manner, and I had to point out that we'd have been about the only two people in the room who had, so it was a fair question

Monopoly Movie Still a Go

Quote:
[It's] still happening," says Goldner, "and we're developing a great story. It's a very fun take. Ridley is still the perfect creative steward, because he creates these great, fictionalized worlds...Suffice it to say, it's a story about a family with a history, and we're projecting that into current times. But it's not 'Wall Street'. It's more about property ownership and of the play-pattern of the game."

That's a relief. I thought someone involved in greenlighting this might have realised what a stupid idea this is and junked it. Well done Ridley, you are still doing pretty good.

I see Robert Downey Jr as the racing car, Scarlett Johansson as the top hat and Tom Cruise as the iron. Might as well have an all-star cast.

From here.

Arnold kicking around a comic book character and offered remakes of Predator and The Running Man?

Published on: Mar 06, 2011 2:14:39 PM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some Arnie news for ya'.

The obsessive folks at TheArnoldFans attended a talk with ex-Governor Schwarzenegger at The Arnold Classic and asked him to elaborate on the recent comment about him having 3 scripts on his table.

His response was like a good Lost episode... filled with mystery, more questions than answers and a few surprising reveals.

"Well, first of all it's more 15 films, obvious ones from The Terminator to remakes of Predator and The Running Man and all of those things. Then also a lot of original stuff too. But I am also packaging a Comic Book character right now. I'm going to announce that sometime by the end of March or the beginning of April."

Let's start with the remakes... There was already rumblings that he was being courted to return to The Terminator universe... I don't know, I think personally at this time it doesn't make much sense unless he's playing a scientist or something and they pull a Data/Bishop angle and have the creator base his creation on himself. It's a continuity thing. It doesn't make much sense if the Robot radically ages... unless he's infiltrating a retirement community that is. Although that didn't work so well last time they tried to explain why the T-800s looked like Arnie...

As for remakes of Predator and The Running Man... surely he meant sequels, right? Unless they want him to play the Host of a Running Man remake I don't see the big studio appeal for having him return to those films. And remake of Predator with him as the action lead? No way. A sequel starring Dutch? I'm in a dozen times over, especially if they're able to bust McTiernan out and have him return to direct.

The most intriguing thing he said was about packaging a comic book character for himself. What could that be? I'm drawing a blank.

Lots of exciting stuff in the future for us children of the '80s who grew up with this man swaggering up and down the screen.

They might as well have left that scene in T3 (see the link)... I'll be glad to see him back (no pun intended), I just hope he chooses carefully

Sylvester Stallone won’t direct The Expendables 2

Sylvester Stallone scored a massive box office coup last year with The Expendables ($275m and counting), but he’s apparently not that keen to helm the action film’s sequel.

Despite previous reports that Stallone was intending to both script and direct The Expendables 2, 24 Frames have word from an inside source that Stallone will be overseeing the project in more of a godfather role.

A script has already been thrashed out by writing team Ken Kaufman and David Agosta, while Stallone is currently meeting with potential directors for the film.

No names yet, but you can bet he’s setting up time with all the big blockbuster directors he can get his mitts on.

No word, either, just who from the first Expendables cast has officially signed on to the sequel, though we know that Bruce Willis sounds keen.
Could Arnie expand his cameo from the original? And will Jean-Claude Van Damme finally join the OAP fun? Time will tell.

Having seen the first one, that's probably for the best ;)

Ian McKellen discusses visiting The Hobbit 3D tests

“I’ve seen Bilbo - in three dimensions”

The Hobbit is finally to begin shooting later this month – something many of us feared would never happen – and, just in case we needed it, Ian McKellen’s got proof.

The British thesp, who’ll play Gandalf once more in Peter Jackson’s adap of the prequel to Lord Of The Rings, caught a 3D test for the film involving Martin Freeman.

Reporting on his official website, McKellen writes:
“I was visiting old friends in the Stone Street offices and heard Martin Freeman was just round the corner by the permanent greenscreen, done up as Bilbo, testing his costume in front of the 3D cameras.

“Indeed, there he was in the open air, mostly oblivious to the camera, though turning this way and that as required.”

For more on McKellen’s visit, check out his website.

The Hobbit: Part One opens December 2012.

Shouldn't she really be in the Tails of Fail thread? Anyone appearing in Battleship should have automatic entry.

James Cameron and Neil Gaiman to work on Journey to the West

Blockbuster director extraordinaire James Cameron and award-winning novelist and screenwriter Neil Gaiman will be contributing their considerable talents to Journey to the West, reports Variety.

The adaptation of the ancient Chinese folk tale is being produced by Zhang Jizhong, who hopes the project will have huge crossover potential.

James Cameron will offer his knowledge on technological issues, particularly 3D, and he'll also be advising on the script.

At a press conference in Beijing, Zhang said: "I'm looking forward to the treatment, but as James Cameron told me, I need to be patient.

"I work in TV usually, so I'm used to things happening quickly. I need to focus on the script and make sure it's a good story."

Stardust and Coraline novelist Neil Gaiman will be writing the script, and the movie will be shot in English. The production will be based in China to take advantage of cost benefits though, with Zhang adding: "One million dollars is worth twice that if you shoot here."

The folk tale concerns the Monkey King, who travels to India with a diverse group of companions (including a monk and a pig spirit) on a mission to retrieve the Buddha's scrolls.

Tantalising, there's even the possibility that unluckiest director of the decade Guillermo del Toro could possibly direct, with Zhang saying: "He has shown a lot of interest but he wants to see the treatment first.

"Obviously the more celebrated the director, the busier they are."

If all these elements do come together, Zhang could have something very special on his hands. He's intending to tell the story as a trilogy, with each movie costing $100 million.

Combining the imagination of Gaiman with the technical nous of Cameron could be a masterstroke, and if GDT comes on board that would be the icing on the cake.

Thoughts? Does nothing for me really, and Cameron's last two films suggest he shouldn't be allowed near a script again :(

Neil Gaiman wrote the English-language dialogue of Princess Mononoke working from a translation of the original Japanese.
There's nothing that he's done that I wouldn't either read or watch.
