Amateur radio operators invented LOL.
In the days before voice communication, everything was done by Morse code. To indicate laughter, the letters H (••••) and I (••) were keyed.
Nowadays, with voice being more common than Morse, many operators still say "H I", often while chuckling.

That people are still being taken in by internet scams like this: The lonely heart scam: Mother sent £80,000 to a man she thought was a charming U.S. soldier... but she'd been conned by Nigerian fraudstersSome people probably shouldn't be allowed to have a computer. More here.

For some time I've thought that a license should be given before people are allowed to use/buy a computer...

In East Africa a 4WD is known as a forbaifor.

Well there already is the ECDL. Maybe it should be compulsory? Jon

Is there a section that covers common sense and overcomes naivety?

It's a difficult one for sure. I'd be pretty annoyed if I had to sit anything as petty as an ECDL exam, but I did have a phone call today where I had to explain to a customer concepts such as 'a mouse' and 'clicking on things'. Thankfully that doesn't happen terribly often.

I remember explaining to a secretary that she shouldn't use tipex on her PC screen Ok so it was 15 years back and I doubt she earned her keep with her typing skills.

To be fair to the chap I was talking to, he was ringing on behalf of someone else, was quite old and never used a computer before. He picked things up pretty darned quickly and I've had considerably more hassle from people who apparently knew what they were doing (but couldn't find the address bar in IE).

Who's meant to be ok, Jesus or the Doc?

Jesus had a pretty good track record for curing people. Have you got leprosy? Or need demons casting out?

But he did not have to deal with administrators or health and safety.
