You can substitute creme fraiche for cream and reduce the fat and calories by at least half.

I am going to try cauliflower mash and that might make a nice alternative to cottage cheese.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I think that menu could use a bit more pie.

I am going through a 'liking Marmite' phase at the moment. I don't usually care for it but once or perhaps twice a year I buy one of the smallest pots and once that's gone I can go for quite some time before buying any more. :?

Flying in the face of conformity as always, I'm fairly indifferent to
Marmite. Quite like it, but rarely eat it as I never think about it. Certainly don't hate it.

In other news, inspired by last week's Edwardian farm, I made a traditional Cornish pasty. Bit bland, but it was the best pastry I've ever made. The kenwood rocks!

New Girlfriend is allergic to mustard. This is not a good thing when it comes to pasties.

Equal quantities: Meat, Potato, Swede, Mustard, Pepper. :D

Equal quantities of mustard? Eek!

A spot of mustard would have improved it no end, though I was trying for totally authentic.

I was exaggerating, but to my mind (Cornish born and raised on oggies) pasties should have plenty of mustard in. And onion. Absolutely no bloody carrots though.

There's a few west country folks on here. How do people feel about the turnip v swede debate? I find it hard to even buy turnips these days :?

Don't think I've ever had turnip on it's own, so not sure what it actually tastes of. Love swede though.

Apparently proper pasties are only flavoured with salt and pepper. However, due to the blandness, I bet most have been added to for many years. So who's to say what's actually proper any more?
