I hate it when I've been good all day, and then Mr Tummy starts to rumble because I've stayed up too late. I often consume more calories as a late night "snack" than I did for my main meal and it always tastes better

Usually, toast from the toaster microwaved with "stuff" and melted cheese on top.

Otherwise I might scramble an egg - which I do in the microwave with added "stuff".

Typically "stuff" might be mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, red and/or spring onion, olives, tinned fish or beans, sweetcorn, meat, ketchup, pickles or any leftovers.

Always I add herb de Provence, garlic salt and black pepper.

Often Marmite and cottage cheese are involved.

Usually, it takes about the same amount of time to prepare as making a cup of tea.

Last night I microwaved cheese and green tomato chutney on toast. Tonight I'm trying not to have the same with added ham.

Bread, butter, cheese and onion.

Bread with cracked pepper.

I take it that means you've never woken up in the middle of the night and stayed awake for hours, or worse still, not fallen asleep in the first place?

Wrong assumption there mate, I've not had a good nights sleep for 22 years. It was a Wednesday night, Thursday was double Chemistry.

A couple of weeks ago I went for 5 days getting no more than 2 hours a night.

Why would I want to eat at that time though?

I used to have huge insomnia issues in the past. But one of the things that kept me awake was the fact that I'd not eaten for 6-8 hours. Hence I'd be hungry by that point.

Hunger would keep you awake? Not heard of that before.

Can't win can you? Don't eat just before you go to bed, don't not eat at some point before you go to bed. You'd think we'd have this sleeping thing sorted by now :D

What about hot chocolate or hot milk? Always sends me off if I have trouble sleeping

Hot Choccie is always good - dont normally have it as a midnight snack as it would mean having to brush my teeth again. Also not sure if a drink (unless soup) is a snack in the stricktest sence of the word

Now Welsh Rabbit :!: - love that as a snack

I know how you feel. I'd be awake for so long, I'd be very tired but still unable to shut off. That's when you realise you last ate around 8pm and it's now 3am. Had this been the daytime, you'd have had a meal by now. I'm used to eating every 6-ish hours (breakfast, lunch, dinner), hence get hungry by 2am.

I've tried but sometimes, perversely, they keep me awake.

If you haven't already tried it get some Green & Blacks Organic Hot Chocolate. OMG LUSH! And very nice in chocolate cakes too :)
