You should be alright. Most of the really shocking old BM drivers have since moved to Audi's

John the Kia Ceed is the same car as the i20 basically. Just the Kia has a more sporty ride and feel whilst the Hyndai is aimed at the old set. If anyone wants to mock Kia, they are offering 7 year Warranty and when I drove one last year I got the shock of my life it was an excellent car, amazing build. standard trim, and performance.

They're safe yes, but most cars seem to have 5 star ratings these days. However, you have to wonder about a manufacturer who would design a car so that in order to change a headlamp, the bumper has to come off!

As for turbos - as long as you disengage the turbo for a few mins before stopping, there's no need to 'cool down' when parking - do it whilst driving.

Just had an interesting conversation with a BMW engineer. Apparently, the problem with early turbochargers was that if they were still hot when they stopped, the heat would carbonize the oil in the bearings which would cause problems with the oil feed lines. However, it seems that more recent ones are fitted with water cooling that continues for a short time after the engine is turned off. This cools the turbo quickly, so preventing the problem.

Well drove up to Hinckley this morning to the Peugeot dealer up there - complete contrast to the dealers near me (Northampton) - helpful, friendly , a pleasure to deal with.

Test drove the 207 VTi Sport 95 - initial thoughts are very nice ride, smooth with little cabin roll on bad roads, acceleration nice and flexible, little road noise - clutch rather light. Wing-mirrors rather an odd-shape. Driving position good with seat easy to adjust, steering wheel easy to move up/down and forward/backwards. Visability front is good but rear not so good. Overall would buy one if the price was right.

Then went to their sister company in Nuneaton - who sell Fiats - and test drove the Grande Punto 120T-Jet Sporting. Initial thoughts are visability is pretty good, seat a bit firm but easy to adjust, steering wheel adjustable up/down and fowards/backwards. Acceleration ok but sufferred from "turbo lag" so had to use a "heavy foot" to get the most out of it. Road-noise coming into the cabin was noticeable - but the road I tested it on was not the best. Again would consider buying one.

Been quoted a total price of £7,925 (this is less part-ex) for the 207 with "Urban Pack", matallic paint and rear parking aid.

Been quoted a price of £6,750 (again this is less part-ex) for the Punto GP 1.4 16v with dark tinted windows and leather interior - noticed does not come with air-con(!) so gone back asking them for a revised price.

Have to decide which one to buy now.

So down to these two only, now?

I'd go with the Fiat.

I bought a used Fiat (eight years old at the time) and was very pleased with the build quality and overall lack of crapness. So much so, it's ensured I may well buy another one in due course.

Based on what others have been saying about French motors in general, the Fiat sounds a much better option! :D

Did the indicators work on any of them?
