Morning all. Off round my brothers for some coffee this afternoon. I think I may make some scones.

Looks like there was a little rain overnight. Plus I actually had the heating on last night and this morning :?

Have a great day folks.

Morning all,

we were supposed to have fireworks in the town last night, so we gave the dog some tranquilizers, he went down in the cellar to sleep and we didn't hear a peep out of him, but I also didn't hear any fireworks... :?

Hopefully they will work at New Year as well, he flips out when the fireworks go off - somebody threw a banger of the hedge and it exploded next to him, when he was a puppy, now he can't stand to hear them, even in the distance. New Year is an absolute torture for him.

Heading into work via the train today. I wonder if I'll be sent to Birmingham...

Morning all,

Mrs. V has a cold, (and as usual it's a bad one) so I'm going to try and talk her out of going into work today. I'm also going to try and ignore my back, (which is bloody killing me!) as I have a lot, (and I mean a lot!) of reading before my interview tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone.

:)

Hello.

*waves*

We've been away again for a couple of days, and apart from hooting with laughter at all the blokes in dresses on the telly over the weekend, achieved a lot of good things. Most of which won't be of any interest to anyone else but us.

We get back to discover our Friday afternoon Vectra is a disaster area. We left it with the garage to try and sort out some lumpy running, only to discover it has a "blown ECU". That's the best part of a grand to fix. Best Beloved, understandably, hit the roof. To cut a long and tedious story short, we've agreed the greasemonkeys put the car back to together again so it runs, we pay for what they've actually spent out on, and then we flog on the dead horse. We'll be happy if we can offload it for £500.

After most of my motoring career being a Vauxhall driver, I shall definitely be steering well clear of that make in the future. I do wonder which car is likely to be the most reliable down the line. It's all the bloomin' electronics they stuff in cars these days. It just seems to break and be expensive, without adding anything tangible to the value and enjoyment. Having spent most of yesterday at a classic vehicle show, I have developed a real yearning for simpler motoring, where a pair of tights and a thumbnail would get you back on the road and get you home. I think I feel a new thread coming on...

Anyway, I am now debating whether to try and catch up on four days' worth of posts, or just mark all as read and start over.

Mark all as read and start over, and don't forget to post pics, or your few days away didn't happen. (8+p

Afternoon

I'm feeling strange. The buyer upped their offer to the land of sensible and so we will probably be moving down south in the next few weeks. I both like this and hate it at the same time. I've lived here on and off for 30 years and my family has owned it since it was built in 1953. So a lot of memories are here...

...which is why I'm also glad - it's not just the happy memories that are here.

And I can't make a new life if I stay here tbh - there's too much old sh*t going on.

  :x :? ;)

The company that is contracting the company I work for are a complete waste of space. They own the technology that is going into the trains I'm working on and they can't design a system for [LIFTED].
I've brought them up on so many things that should have been thought about when the project began several years ago...

They don't give error messages, just blank the screen and apply emergency breaks if something goes wrong, these messages that aren't displayed on the screen can be traced into a file, however some idiot has said "Oh, /tmp would be a good place to put these log files", so when the driver turns the system off so that he can get a train full of passengers to 'B' the system shuts down and wipes everything in /tmp :x
Now they are giving us procedures to recover some of these logs and the process seems to corrupt files!

How on earth have these people been able to implement this same system in France and Germany!?
:x :x :x

Have a good day everyone, I'll probably be in Birmingham International if you need me...
