Originaly I bought 2 of Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit.

They have given me nothing but problems.

I was going to warn you about using Ballistix DDR2 in Maximus Formula. My Maximus killed three sets in 6 months so I went to google the problem and found out that Crucial themselves confirmed their ram is not compatible with x38 and x48 chipsets. They even refunded people for their ram.

I gave up on Ballistix and got Mushkin Redline 2 x 2 GB DDR2-1000 PC2-8000 CL5
I had it for 8 months and it runs perfectly. I run Memtest every couple of month and it always passes.
It is not cheap but I guarantee it will work like it should.

You'll be more than fine with your psu. I've run 4x 8800GT's & a dualcore on 600w before

Nice! Thanks Saspro!

I will probably get it by Tuesday as its out of stock at the moment. Can't wait to actually be able to play games again on my pc. :D

Very interesting what Koli said about the Ballistix not working in x38 mobos. I may ask crucial for some money back if it's possible

Cheers

Don't bother, I've tried that when RMAing (directly to Crucial) my third set and failed. Their argument was that my old sticks were older revision (2.2v) and they will send me the new revision (2.0v) which should according to them work properly. They've sent me the new revision but I haven't tried it so I don't know if it's are any better.

Problem is that when ram goes bad it will screw up the whole Windows installation. It is called silent corruption. At the beginning ram produces very few errors, you don't notice it but it slowly screws up you OS. And by the time you notice your ram is not working properly your OS is in a total mess so you have to do fresh install. That is why I just didn't bother trying new set, cost of it going bad was just to high so I didn't want to risk it anymore...

I have to say that Crucial's customer service is excellent. They are very efficient and accommodating, e.g. they would send replacement to my work place without the fuss...

Thanks for the tip! I think I will get them to fix or replace the RAM and then stick it on ebay lol :D

Overclockers should have my new RAM in stock tomorrow, can't wait. I didn't realise that faulty RAM can screw up your operating system :o ....That Explains A LOT! now I know where all the problems are coming from. I think I will install the new RAM see how it performs and maybe a month later do a fresh install of windows.

Then if there are still problems lol Im ditching the Motherboard haha. Just want the damn thing to work for once.

Cheers

OK!

Got my new RAM :D

it says on the sticks 2.2v 5 5 5.....does that mean I set it to the same in the bios or do I set it below that? I dont want to fry it before I even get to use it lol.

Also, Crucial got back to me and they did indeed offer me a new type of RAM which I fully intend to take and sell :D

So if anyones interested, brand new RAM from Crucial

It means set the voltage to 2.2v and the timings to 5-5-5-whatever the other number is

The way to do this set the ram to voltage recommended by manufacturer and run memtest. If it passes, decrease memory voltage by a notch and run again. Repeat decreasing voltage until it fails the memtest and then up it up again to last stable setting.

I managed to lower the voltage on Ballistix from recommended 2.2v to 1.86v for 5-5-5-15

Hi guys,

Ok the RAM is in and working! :D

no problems yet, ran memtest and no errors were found, I just need to find a programme that will tell me what voltages my RAM is runing at preferably something like the cpu test thingy that tells you on your desktop, because I couldnt find anyhting in my bios that would help me change the voltage.....weird thing is when I had the Crucial memory in, there WAS an option to change the voltage.

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Kal
