The Deep

Anybody watching this? Part 2 is at 9pm BBC 1 tonight. The crew of a research submarine find things that shouldn't be there while on a mission below the Arctic ice. It does seem as if it could go in an Abyss direction or it could all be man-made. It's quite a good setup, but it is very slow, a bit cliched and has an odd, mainly uninteresting cast (Minnie Driver, James Nesbitt, etc). I am debating whether to bother tonight...there's five episodes in total. :?

I saw the first episode of the deep and thought it highly risible or just plain crap. Looked for the second last night thinking along the lines of so bad its good, but I doubt it.

It all reminded me of the Abyss. I am trying to work out if they are a humans or aliens they are up against.

I thought it was much better than the first episode. Although I'd probably still also only go as far as 'poor' :) . If they'd just have ditched the idiotic soapy adultery plot some point about a year ago, it might be bordering on acceptable.

If you didn't catch it first time around, watch Vexed on iPlayer - two detectives, man and a woman, first ep was funny as fcuk. She's neurotic and he's a bit like Dr Cox in Scrubs  . She looks familiar and he's played by Toby Stephens, watch it :D

Is it just me, or is that James May show that was on BBC2 last night not available on iPlayer yet, despite everything else around it being there? :?

James May's Big Ideas? It a very old show, been on numerous times before and being shown on rotation on Dave. It might not be listed in the schedule but a search might find it nonetheless.

The Freeview listing said it was something to do with the Cold War, IIRC... :?

iPlayer Visions of the Future peeps, it's absolutely fantastic. The first ep's worth 'acquiring' ;) (it was essentially about where computers are taking us, AI/robots etc), but the second was even better, looking at the human genome project, the presenter going for a gene test, scientists thinking there could be people in their 50s/60s today who'll naturally see 150...

Watch it! :D

I am so sad. Watched ep 3 of the Deep hier. You remember the cringe/uncomfortable/turns in the grave feeling the first time you saw the office?
It's just if I were to design a nuclear reactor, I would consider making the control rods drop in when temperature reaches critical. A bit like those solder and spring based oil shutoff valves fitted to oil fired boilers.

But then there would be less drama.

^ Only two more episodes to go!

I didn't bother after the first one, but my other half is persevering with it - with gritted teeth.

Someone told me today the American version of the Office was good. And he's British! Told him I refuse to watch it as all American remakes are rubbish *takes stand*
