O2 network scraps unlimited data

UK phone network O2 has scrapped unlimited data downloads for smartphone customers.

All new and upgrading customers will have their usage capped at between 500 Megabytes (MB) and one gigabyte (GB) depending on their monthly tariff.

This brings them into line with other networks then, I get "unlimited" with T-Mobile, which really means 1GB.

I don't see any mention of the Cloud and BT Openzone access. I assume they are still there in the new tariffs.

It does say wifi access is still unlimited. Just not which exact suppliers it's talking about. Having said that I tried to use the BT Openzone wifi network in Manchester airport on my iPhone and it wouldn't let me on so...

Hmm received 446MB, send 128MB... In 9 months! Really making use of my unlimited 3G data allowance!

My 18 month contract ends in a couple of weeks and I'm at 424Mb down, 87Mb up, so no worries here either ;)

I appear to have downloaded a total of 2.6GB since I got the phone, but that was 22 months ago, so as a monthly rate none of them are too bad.

Considering the amount of web use I do on my iPhone (maps, Twitter, Facebook, uploading photos), I’d make a dent in their allowances, but not a huge one.
