A homeless man who became an expert at faking illness so he could stay in hospital has been given a criminal Asbo.

Counter-fraud experts say the fraud has cost the NHS tens of thousands of pounds.

Christopher Dearlove, 41, used more than 70 aliases to trick NHS staff into admitting him to hospital.

A judge at Bolton crown court has now banned Dearlove from using the NHS unless he is genuinely ill.

Rather than giving an ASBO perhaps arrange an assessment with a Clinical Psychologist, some housing and help into getting trained for work?

jonbwfc I was behind her in a queue today - but I wouldn't describe it as 'bushy'.

Surely the only reason he got into hospital before was because several people thought he was genuinely ill? What has the judge 'put in place' that is actually any different than what happened before?

If he's not ill he's in breach of his ASBO and can be prosecuted accordingly.

Yes wouldn't housing him be a better option. The problem is that you criminalise the homeless and avoid the problem which passes the problem from housing to the police.

On facebook, I wrote:
"If [this bloke] breaks the terms of his restrictions, he will be jailed for
up to five years." right, so he spends another few days in a hospital, then gets a free room for 5 years? idiots :/

i know its a harsh way of looking at it, but ive heard of people doing petty crimes in America to get sent to jail, just so they have a room over their heads fora few months :?

totally agree with whats been said here though, they should be helping this guy, not criminalising him
