It was an oxymoron back then. Bombing was so hit and miss that area bombing was the only solution unless you went in low, which was impossible in the big bombers then, and certainly not at night.

I think that's an oxymoron now too! But as they say if modern missiles are so accurate, why aren't they called hitiles? Boom, boom.

To be accurate and excessively nerdy Lancasters were used for low-level bombing e.g. Dambuster, April '42 MAN diesel engine factory and Feb '44 Gnome-Rhone factory raids.

Incidentally whilst the Tallboy bomb weighed 12,000lb the Grand Slam bomb weighed even more at 22,000lbs and the American post WWII T-12 Cloudmaker demolition bomb weighed 43,600 lb (20,000 kg). Now that's a big bomb! No disrespect intended to the poor people who died.
