I hate when that happens. I totally empathise. Sorry. Tom, good point. That's how I arrived at my first post on page one of this thread without having seen the finale. I've just watched the first 20 minutes of the finale over lunch and so far I had a massive grin on my face or a slight tear in the eye. Both great signs. Can't wait to get into Oli's thread later and see what everyone's about. But irrespective of that, the show was totally worth it.

I liked Alias but did not understand Lost. Though there are plenty out there who loved Lost.

Yes, I was just about to post exactly what I wrote on that thread, then thought it would be better on here. I will go over to your thread now and show my workings.

I often hear that kind of defence from eastenders fans Lost rightly receives criticism because it promised much and delivered little. Watch the first two seasons again and make a note of all the questions it poses. How many of those have actually been answered (rather than just sidestepped)? The compulsion to watch further is driven by the desire for those answers. Instead, we get four years of convoluted character development. I admit I only saw odd episodes after mid season three but, from what I have heard and read, that is pretty much how it turned out.

FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eastenders is wank, it's not fashionable to say that, it's just true. Even most people who like it would admit that, but they like it anyway. I have watched the first two seasons again, just a couple of months ago. [LIFTED] off with the questions argument. The media and Joe Schmo are so obsessed with questions, they forget to sit back and enjoy the show. It's not about questions. No good TV show answers every question it poses, either philosophically or with plot points. Anything that answers everything is generally shash. Questions are far more important. Take your mainstream opinion and shove it up your ass, or preferably watch the show all the way through and then engage in a real debate with me about it's pros and cons. I'm happy to discuss where it went wrong creatively and Damon and Carlton have as well. Unfortunately, ABC marketed this as a mainstream show, and it seems most "mainstream" folk aren't with it enough to appreciate it for what it is.

At the risk of being flamed by Okenobi, I thought Lost was fairly dire as drama goes and I often felt they made things strange/introduced odd twists and left things open-ended just for the sake of it. It all got pretty tiresome very quickly.

Fair point. And yet, the producers and ABC felt compelled to take out ads promising that "answers are coming". Oh damn, I see. I'm just not special enough to "get it" So, you welcome debate but have no respect for the opinions of others? Glad to see you have followed Lost's example and disappeared up your own ass. Thats just my opinion, of course.

Well aren't I causing a scene over here?! Before I head into Oli's thread, having just finished the finale, I thought I'd pop in here.
Linux, at various points throughout the show, what you say is correct. The strike didn't help and before they were given an end date (i.e. season 2/3) there were things that were balls up. Damon and Carlton have both put their hands up to that. Then you have Adewale wasisface asked to leave, so the Mr. Eko storyline didn't get a proper finish which definitely didn't help. When you say "dire as drama goes" do you mean it lacked drama, or was dire FOR a drama?
Speadie, ABC can suck my cock. They're a network and therefore inherently have little clue about how to treat a quality TV show. Of course they'll promise answers! They want the maximum number of viewers for the final season/finale. As I've tried to explain the whole time, the show was never about answers. People who just wanted answers to unresolved plot lines are always going to be disappointed. I don't mean that you're not "special". But you appear to be expecting things from the show, that aren't going to be delivered. Hope that makes sense. I'm sorry I was abrupt earlier. I find it frustrating that people seem to miss the point. If you're argument is "there are never any answers", I believe it's entirely flawed. If however, you want to debate the show as a whole, I'm up for that. But as you haven't seen it all, we can't really do that effectively. You left it at it's weakest point and it improved immeasurably after that.
I try to respect everybody and their opinions. It's hard, because I'm often a judgemental asshole. That's a lifelong quest for me to improve that. However, in this particular case, I felt I "understood" this show, warts and all, like I would a woman. I know it's flaws and I love it in spite of them. People coming at it with a perspective of a lack of answers are, I believe, entirely missing the point.

I voted no.
I don't think it disappeared up it's own tailpipe and nor do I think it didn't have plot - it blatantly did. The acting was okay as were the scripting, casting and camerawork - no complaints here. I even "got it".
In the end however, just like Harry Potter, CSI and Star Trek, Lost gets ranked with other forms of fairly watchable brain cheese. I kept getting that deja vu feeling of having spotted the writers' pattern.
There was nothing bad there - it's just that it didn't stand out either. *shrug*
