I use it to chat to a guy in the US I am making a game with, it's easier than calling as it's free for both of us
Same for chatting to some guys I know who do a podcast, they use it for recording the podcast too.
Doesn't bother me tbh, MSN Messenger has ads for some time and I never look at them, if I could remember how to disable it I would as the popup can be annoying from time to time

I've been using it for the best part of a decade.
We also use it at work for video conferences - we also have a paid ooVoo account for 3-way video calls, but, because the other two accounts get adverts, we use Skype for 2-way calls. If it gets adverts and remains only 2-way, we will probably switch to using ooVoo all the time and maybe upgrade the other two sites to paid accounts as well...

I use it though not much at the moment. I cant see why they need to charge for it. It is not as if it costs them much to provide the service. If you then use it to make calls they get pay the local transmission fees, which could be free in Europe if they banned termination fees. It is a service that needs large numbers to make itself worth using as the main service for which we would then be willing to pay.

I have an account because a few of my friends annoyingly insist on using it instead of MSN, partly because of the mobile voice client.
I also have a Skype Out account so I can call fairly cheaply from anywhere with Internet.
I don't usually have it running, and if the adverts were unobtrusive in a similar fashion to those on MSN then I probably wouldn't notice that they hadn't been there all along!

I have been using skype for years now, calling my family overseas. It is free, reliable and sound quality is fine. I haven't noticed any adverts yet.
Does anybody use Google voice here? It is being tested in US and it seems like a very good service. Hopefully it will be available here in the UK soon too...
