I have to agree with l3v1ck the automated response should have been in both languages. Especially if they are a translator, not everyone will understand the answer is an automated response.

If someone spoke Welsh, they wouldn't be emailing her for a translation in the first place

Maybe the translators automated reply should be in two languages as well.

Not strictly true. Most translation departments have generic mailboxes for customers and people outside the department so that other people can pick up work when others are away. Their own email accounts would normally be used for internal email only.

Also, even a Welsh speaker may be unwilling to translate their own work - it isn't a good use of time, especially a large document with contributions from many sources. It goes to a dedicated department where it can be translated and proof-read.

It doesn't change the fact that the autosig should have been bilingual.

I agree about the proof reading. Even authors have proof readers.

Welsh is a dead language spoken by a few thousand people and it winds me up my tax money is being wasted on road signs and TV programmes for a tiny tiny minority of people.

I wonder how much government money and resource could be saved by just having everything in English, then put back into useful things like giving terrorists benefits and MP's pay increases and expenses.

If people are that bothered by it they should use their own money to keep it alive, if that were the case it would a historical footnote by lunch time. Ridiculous.

More than a few thousand speak it, and it is their national language and since devolution why shouldn't they spend their money on it? I have no problem at all with the addition of Welsh to every sign in Wales. It is also far from dying.
