Hell yes, strip me for parts and toss the rest away. At that point, it's just meat, I'm surely finished with it by that time.
And it may help prevent my zombification in the future.

Well being the current owner/occupier I would say that it could give you some right. You can choose how your estate is dealt with after your death, I suppose it depends on what you corpse is classed as at that point.

That's if you put a monetary value on your body. It doesn't have a value because it's beyond being worth something. therefore you do'nt choose how you allocate your ressources

But what if you could choose between two people receiving something and could judge them or their lifestyle?

Perhaps you could specify "No blacks, no Jews, no Irish".

Well you can choose to support local communities with charity, local farmers at markets, choose which hospital you go to and where your kids go to school etc. So many choices so why not get to decide where your giblets go?

Out of interest, would you want to choose?

I might choose to make a living donation, which you can with a kidney, liver or bone marrow. Once I'm dead? I'd rather let the doctors decide, except in the very unlikely situation where I happened to be terminally ill and someone I knew needed an organ and I had one to match. I have no idea if it would be possible or not to make arrangements in that scenario.

No, I wouldn't choose. I've been on the organ donor register since I got my licence and given between 20-25 pints of the red stuff since around the same time. I would have liked to have given more, but holidays in certain areas and a piercing have limited my opportunity to do so.

I have O-negative blood which is the most sought after, but because of BSE I couldn't donate in Oz. Because of this thread I had a look at marrow donation last night and apparently they can take stem cells from blood now rather than marrow from bone (in most cases). As there isn't the up to a 2 day hospital and 5 day home recovery period I signed up.

It's a toughie...

This is the best thing about opt-out: You will have so many possible donors (assuming that people will be too lazy to opt-out) that is if it comes to a situation that somebody ask for your organ and your family says no, it won't be a problem, even when you haven't opted out. There will be plenty of other donors so nobody will have to say to your family "You MUST give us JV's organ as he hasn't opted out". They will just move on to a next person...

I've carried a donor card since my teens.

I've also just been nagged enough by the various ad campaigns to register online as well.

I have as well. Though I think I better update my bone marrow donation details soon.

I would think it's only fair that if you're on the register you get first dibs................

I understand that once you're dead, currently the situation is your body "belongs" to the estate, thet is, your heirs. If you are in hospital when you die, it's the hospital's until they or the coroner release it
