Uhm, yeah, you've a car that wants to turn left and you need to hold that in a straight line at 200mph in the middle of a pack of other cars, all wanting to do the same thing.
I'd say steering was important, just in a different way.
Of course it's not F1, but it's not without it's merits. It's just different.
