Fair play. I was gonna go there, but then I remember that Merlin have just opened the Phoenix in Falmouth. It's brand new and licensed, so I'm obliged to go check it out. I spoke to them last night and they're quite happy to show me around all the screens, so I can find my favourite and pick out the best seats! Take the mrs down there, it's gotta be worth a look....

That's a pretty nice perk! Do you work for them or something?

Nope. I'm just a big fan of the cinema and I like to find seats with the best picture and sound and then secure them every time! You should get down there, it sounds like it'll have the comfort of Screen 7 in Redruth, with the quality of the Plaza.

I'll remember to take a look next time I'm in town. Unfortunately I'm off to Cardiff again tomorrow for my exams, so I guess I'll have to catch Trek again o'er there.

I'm seeing it at the Birmingham IMAX tomorrow. Suffice it to say I'm expecting great things. Otherwise it will be back to "classic" trek for me.

Just got back and thought it was.......... brilliant!
I wasn't a big Trekkie, especially the Cpt Kirk series but have watched a few and think they carried enough of the characters over to keep fans happy.
The film itself though is cracking. Amazing effects, good story, plenty of action, etc etc. Its definately worth seeing at the cinema.
And for me Bones is the best character of the lot.

Saw it last night - enjoyed it but wouldn't say it was brilliant. There were a few too many convinient coincidences in the plot and it didn't seem to "flow" terribly well for me. I thought Karl Urban absolutely nailed the character of McCoy - absolutely brilliant. Though I kept on expecting Chekov to start talking about meerkats...

Saw it last night. Enjoyed it immensely, although there did seem to be a couple of things in the plot which contradict all the later series/ films.

I saw it last night too, it was ok, i'd give it 3 out of 5. I know it's rewriting the history, and I don't have an issue with it but too much of it just wasn't Star Trek. Simon Pegg was awful as Scotty, and having Chekov with an indecipherable accent and that farcical scene where he runs from the bridge to the Transporter room was terrible. One of the underlying themes of Star Trek was how different cultures came together and worked together in harmony, so the racist stereotypes and some of the anti-Vulcan statements (pointy eared b@st@rd etc) just went against that. There were also too many ridiculous scenes, how many times must Kirk fall over the edge of something and dangle by his fingers, also why could Chekov lock onto two freefalling people at terminal velocity and beam them back, but can't get Spock's mother who was just starting to fall. The best part for me was when the old theme tune and voice over kicked in at the end. Maybe it was all just a long trailer for a much better movie to come. Funny how all the odd numbered Star Trek movies seem poor compared to the even numbered ones. All in all a long and frustrating 2 hours with a couple of nice set pieces, though the two main characters are played really well.

Absolutely AWESOME film! My only complaint (like Peter) is that is was too short! I could've sat there for another couple of hours watching more I seriously hope this re-launches something good for Star Trek. The last few TNG films were crap, Enterprise was crap (I loved the reference to Admiral Archer's beagle though ), this film was awesome and the effects can finally match the imagination of the director. If JJ Abrams takes hold of Star Trek he could do something amazing with it!

I've still not seen the film, but I'm going to question that statement. Voyager, TNG and DS9 are all very PC with everyone getting along nicely most of the time. Where there is friction, it's usually resolved. It's all very "diplomatic". ST "Classic" was extremely racist indeed. Kirk was always making digs at Spock for his green blood, and also with Scotty etc., and when it came to aliens it was always "we come in peace, shoot to kill". Unless it was a cute blue chick, in which case he snogged her face off. James T. Kirk was about as PC as cowboys and Indians, and I would be disappointed if he deviated massively from that canon.

I have to agree. I think the point they were making is that despite their differences, despite the fact that Kirk was arrogant and Spock was a point eared b@stard they were able to come together and work together. It was all very Star Trek-y but done in a more extreme/modern/subtle (i.e. they didn't have Kirk explaining the moral of the situation at the end to the rest of the crew, etc...) way.
