As to the tower thing, It is clever, it is a reminder of the days when computers had a separate tower connected to them.

Just a bit of clarification - when I originally posted my 2nd logo in the "Design a Logo" thread, my reasons where... It was never intended to be literally a computer case design, just a symbol that could cover any platform. Hope that helps to clarify my thinking at the time. I was also thinking about my 1st logo and was going to do a more Mac-orientated version, similar to the one above, but real work got in the way! This Mac version could appear on the "Mac Software" and "Mac Hardware" categories (or even as a preference in your profile to apply a theme?). The only problem is that the close "X" button is the red one, which is on the far left side of the three "traffic light" buttons, so the "404.co.uk" part would have to appear in between the red and the yellow buttons, something like this perhaps... I could always look at this properly if this one is chosen by the poll, as this one is just thrown together quickly. Similarly, changing the original version to blue isn't really correct as the Windows close "X" button is red. Although I like it in blue, some people might object because it isn't technically correct. I suppose you could argue that a bit of artistic licence is OK if it makes a better logo! I'm not voting by the way - at least not in these 6 logos - I might vote in the other 6 logos thread, where I'm not involved in the finalists. Some good logos in the mix though, just going back to Dennis' forums shows how drab and boring theirs are.

It's only red if you leave it at the standard skins. Customise your skin and you don't have to settle for a red-squared X. I have a red start button. Besides, I think blue would suit this site much better. I preferred the blue logos over the non-blue ones.

Ah right, I didn't know you could customise the colours that much - I've only changed XP's theme from the default to the more monochrome theme (sorry, can't remember what's it's called!). But Windows isn't my main system, I only use it occasionally at work. I still like my original logo with the red "X" button though, but whatever everyone wants I can change if it's chosen. I'd agree, blue's nice, though I think the forum's theme can be customised to fit with any chosen logo, so the logo doesn't necessarily have to fit with the current theme on the forums.

Steve's is my favourite of the lot, and although I don't understand why the mac crowd appear to be getting precious about the logo's slight association with the windows gui, I do consider it reason enough to say Tom's would be the better choice.

Hey it is not the Mac crowd, it is just the forum cat. Nobody takes notice of the cat. That is the way is should be.
