I watched Waterworld when I was a teen. I liked it too. Haven't seen it recently.

1. So he's part fish. How? Where are the rest? 2. How are people welding? 3. How do those jetskis keep operating? Can you keep one submerged for long periods and have it burst into life? 4. Why are the people on the atoll wearing such pointless hats? 5. How are they refining oil? 6. Where are all the women? 7. The flying blimp thing. Just all of that. 8. Why did they needless dress up all the guns with flash shields etc? 9. They can weld, construct and maintain things but they don't produce paper? 10. If dirt is such a rarity, why are people being allowed to stroll about growing potted plants in it? 11. The recycling pit for the tree at the atoll makes no sense. Is it dirt and organic matter and fresh water? Or is it salt water? Actually, I don't believe a tree would grow that size that close to the sea.

He's a mutant. I'm sure that's what they shout as well.

The Vacation. 6.5/10
Crap but good. Some laugh out loud moments but mostly just a lack of good storyline, I would watch it again though, because it's what I'd call "easy watching" on a rainy day and it did make us laugh.

Monsters (2010)
I've finally caught up with this on DVD and enjoyed it. I can see why people going to see it may have been disappointed by the lack of monsters onscreen, but it's an effective and atmospheric film. Shot in almost documentary style, it tells the story of two people trying to cross Mexico to get back home to the USA. Only problem is that the northern half of Mexico is now a quarantine zone containing vast monsters, brought to Earth when a NASA probe crashes.
The 'Making Of...' features on the DVD are worth a watch. The VFX documentary is among the best I've seen with a more in-depth look at how the writer/director worked out and completed all the FX shots by himself. At one point he has to build the title creatures in 3D in 10 days saying that on a big-budget movie you'd get months to do this. As it is, he completed 260 shots in 5 months. How he didn't crack under the pressure I don't know.
Well worth a look, especially if you've seen Godzilla.
7.5/10

Also, maybe I'm late to the party, but [LIFTED] ME - WHIPLASH.
Only up there as one of the best films I've ever seen.
A cocky, but hopeful jazz drummer kid goes up against JK Simmons in full double-hard bastard mode as his teacher. [LIFTED] incredible. Please watch it.

Whiplash was brilliant.
Just watched I Origins, a triumph that it remained touching and interesting despite being equally dodgy and religious. 7/10 for being a nice twist on boy meets girl.

That's been on my 'to watch' list for a while. You'd recommend it then? Mark

Watched A Walk Among the Tombstones last night. A thriller. It was okay but I felt there were ways in which it could have been made better. It starts off slowly and reaches a peak but never a true climax. If that makes sense. Liam Neeson played the role perfectly.

Yes. It raises some very interesting questions and is very touching in places.
