A HD TV will have the same resolution as most 22 - 24" monitors so unless your eyesight is shot you may as well go for the smaller display and maybe consider having multiple displays. I use two 22" displays at work and that's a good setup if you need multiple windows open and visible at once.

You'll have more screen real estate with a 4K screen but the price will be rather higher even though they've come down a fair bit in price.

27 - 32" monitors are now available in 4K resolutions or ultra wide:

Funnily enough, their work range is much cheaper and has more choice, here are the large 4K and 5K monitors in the business range:

I have a 24" monitor but require more space to allow me to run the app in runtime and have visual studio open to develop in. There are lots of screens within VS to show. Two displays will work, but there I don't have the desk space for them, which is why I was looking at a single larger display.

You might find this link useful then:
Toms Hardware Monitors Roundup
You're looking at mid £300 territory for a decent 4K display that won't require much squinting (by which I mean 27" plus diagonal) and you can obviously go much higher if you wasn't stuff like an IPS pannel.
If you can't stretch to 4K then a QHD display will provide a decent amount of additional space over a HD one and be a bit cheaper. It'll also put less stress on your graphics card than 4K although that's only really important if you also do gaming on your PC.

No serious gaming, just web and dev atm.

I've got three monitors, which is brilliant for development work. They are:

1. Acer 28" 4K monitor, for main work.
2. 22" 1860*1050 monitor, for testing, while looking at code on the "big screen"
3. 22" 1860*1050 monitor for anything else, including watching tutorial videos, while coding on the "big screen"

The only thing I would have changed is to have full HD 22" monitors, but there were too expensive when I bought them.

Hope this helps,

John.

Hi John,
I don't suppose you have the model (or a link) of the acer monitor?

As in 3840 isn't 4096. :geek:

Nice panel though.

Can't argue with you on any of those points. It is a lovely monitor, though.

Post subject:  Re: Large monitor needed.

HI,
quick update i've now got a acer K242HL & Acer V246HL at work, seem to be ok so far..

I am looking to get a similar set up at home by getting a stand that will hold 2 monitors, amazon for about £25-30.

Does anyone recommend any sites that sell monitors reasonably priced and are trust worthy? And what would be a reasonable monitor to get, looking to pay around £100-130 , may do a little gaming on it.

I am also going to e looking for a new graphics card too that will power 2 monitors.. or would 2 graphics cards be better?

cheers
Rich

Post subject:  Re: Large monitor needed.

Have bought from Scan before and they were pretty good.

I can't think of any graphics card these days that won't drive at least 2 displays although most cards now seem to be favouring DP over HDMI - so you'll often only get a single HDMI out and will need a DP to HDMI adaptor to drive a second display over HDMI if that's your preferred connection method. Full HD is pretty much a basic expectation so getting decent frame rates for gaming on two displays shouldn't present too much of a problem unless you are seriously strapped for cash.

What sort of budget were you thinking off for the graphics card(s)?

Not to sure on the budget, reasonably decent wuthout breaking the bank.

Would 350 get me 2 monitors and a decent card?
