Hey

I know it's much cheaper to build your own but I cba.

So looking at a gaming PC that's prebuilt.

I've seen some of the Alienware stuff but it seems quite expensive for what it is.

Also PC specialist looks quite good (I bought my old old computer there).

Any recommendations?

I'll mainly be playing things like League of Legends and stuff like that so nothing tooooo advanced.

Anyway.

Got mine from Scan/3XS.
Plenty of customisation options and if there is something specific you want you can speak to them for further customisation.

Try Scan. Avoid Alienware like the plague. PC Specialist are supposed to be pretty reasonable.

Thanks :-) think I'll go with a scan 3xs eventually. They have an awesome range.

However, I managed to get LoL working on my 5 year old MacBook Air :-) so it's good for now. (On very very lowest settings).

I only recently realised how good this mba is. It has a core i7 processor and still fights a good fight with current gen stuff. Beats the new MacBook hands down :-)

How about something like this?

http://www.ebuyer.com/734660-pc-special ... cs-d890499

Is that decent spec/price wise?

I guess I know I could buy it cheaper if I self build but for a pre built?

The lower side of mid-range, I would think.

What sort of gaming are you going to be doing? What sort of monitor? If you are going above Full HD, you will probably see low FPS and, depending on the game, you probably won't get high detail on Full HD either.

I would expect a Core i7 and 16GB RAM for decent gaming and a GTX980. Personally, I would also be looking for a combo SSD + HD, not an HD with a solid state cache.

Ok cool thanks. Now at least I have a rough idea. The gaming won't be too strenuous. Most of it will be on my Xbox anyway.

Also, jeez, it's moved on a lot since I last had a PC.

An i5, 8-16GB RAM & a 970GTX with an SSD would be a great machine.
I built one for one of the girls at work and it flies

I've got a GTX 970 in my PC and it quite happily drives 2560x1440 at max settings in the games I play (but I'm not a big fan of FPS type ones so can't comment on how well it'll handle those).
Also, yeah, an actual SSD and separate HDD would be my recommendation as well.

For gaming a Core i7 doesn't normally add much over an i5 as the majority of games don't benefit from the hyperthreading in the i7.
If you want to do some heavy duty video or music work as well then an i7 would be a better choice.

I was looking at the frame rates for GTA V, LoTR Mordor and a couple of others. The 970 with all details turned on was generating something around 20-30fps in Full HD ISTR, the 960 only 15 fps.

Interesting.
Worth pointing out that there is a roughly £140 - £150 jump from the 970 to 980 at the moment (comparing cards from the same manufacturers on the Scan website).
If you can afford it, could be worth it, especially from a future-proofing point of view although if you're not playing (or doing anything else) too demanding on the GPU front maybe not.

It looks quite good, but I do have a couple of questions, which you may or may not have considered.

Is the fact that the memory can't be upgraded without replacing the existing sticks going to be an issue?
Is the PC going to be situated somewhere where the lights are going to be a distraction?

Looks pretty good for the price.
I'd echo JV's question about the memory. I assume they've used a smaller mobo (mATX presumably) to only have 2 RAM slots.
You've also only got 2 PCIe-1x slots, one of which is obviously blocked by the graphics card. Still, enough to add a discrete sound card or something else if you wanted to at a later date.
I'd maybe also want to know what chipset the motherboard is using, although it's not a K series CPU so overclocking (if you want to do that) options would be restricted anyway.
Maybe also consider a step up in the SSD size. Game installs are only getting bigger and 120GB might start feeling cramped pretty quickly even with your user files on the HDD.

SSD drives are so cheap now that I'd say just splash out £40 or so and get an additional 240GB, which you could use purely to install games on.
