Can anyone recommend a piece of software I can run that'll keep my laptop anon while online? I don't really want to run it through my router (although it's an option) as I'll still need to access iPlayer etc through the Xbox.

Yes, you can use this VPN software for windows. As per my experience its a good & fastest VPN worldwide.
