'lo 'tards.
Got someone coming over for din-dins tonight. Vegetarian (no to egg, okay with milk/cheese).
Anyway, thought of making stuffed peppers - stuffed with couscous, herbs etc. All really nice. Got desert* sorted too.
But what would go well with this? Just plain boiled veg (boring) or something more?
I need ideas people. And we're not eating for another two hours, so still have a bit of time. It'll be boiled veg unless someone can come up with a better idea.
*desert is my signature muffins. Warmed choc chip muffin with a scoop of ice-cream hidden inside, with white choc sauce and dark cherries. Putty. Palm. Hand.

Given that stuffed peppers is a fairly light, summery dish, I would be tempted to do something like a greek salad, rather than straight veggies, as it would be more in keeping.

What vegetables do you have? And do you have any salad making stuffs? Although it's come over grey here, it's still mighty warm and a salad is nice...
If you have stuffs to make it, a simple side of ratatouille might be nice?

Um, don't muffins use eggs in the recipe? And so can ice cream IIRC, depends on who is making it. Best check ingredients... or hope they don't notice.

Bit of a wierd veggie - won't eat eggs but does eat ice-cream, muffins etc (I've checked). Yeah I thought of a salad too. I have lots of stuff (went food shopping) so can make a few things but deciding what goes well with it.

Eh, gad that sounds awful. Anyway, back on topic, what about a Greek style salad (with some Feta in it) to go with the couscous. Or perhaps some nice bread? Funny veggie? They don't say they are a vegetarian and then eat fish and chicken or something do they? That makes me very angry for some strange reason. It's like false advertising or something.

Well it's almost a fish, it swims on water, drink water, it's practically a fish...And pigs, cows, sheep, anything that lives near water really. Actually, I'm a post-modern vegetarian: I eat meat, ironically. | | | | |
Sorry...

Out of interest, if mentioned guest ever repays the favour and asks you to a dinner party will they be preparing a nice juicy steak for you? FWIW, I think the Greek salad idea would go very nicely with it.

To be honest it isn't too bad, but you can tell it's soya milk, and is very soft compared to some normal ice cream (as in it's easy to serve straight from the freezer) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYcHcSb8n2U

i used to know someone who was a veggie... but would eat pretty much anything... provided you told him it was a cheese sandwich... it could be bacon... black pudding... you name it... but tell him it was a cheese sandwich and he'd eat it...
as for what to put with stuff peppers... possible some roasted vegetable done in butter or olive oil...

I ended up doing a wierd pseudo-ratatouille type thing and a small salad too. Went down well.
I looked on the ice-cream tub thing and it didn't mention egg anywhere! Decided against the muffin thing because it didn't sit right with the rest of the meal so got some ice-cream desserts I had as back-up.
Guest was a vegetarian who won't eat meat, fish or eggs but will eat products if they are oblivious to the fact that it contains egg (eg cakes) - they don't study the packaging.
I have other mates who go far as to scrutinise the packaging on a chocolate bar before committing to buy.
