New Year's Eve in Germany is all about fireworks and getting drunk.

Fireworks are only (theoretically) allowed on NYE. They go on sale on the 28th December and stop on 31st December.

Again, theoretically, they should start the fireworks at midnight on the 31st, firing in the new year.

Only some idiots buy illegal (bigger bang, less safe) fireworks from Eastern Europe beforehand and a lot start "banging" on the 28th, on the 31st, instead of starting at midnight, they start at 10 in the morning and spend the whole day regularly setting off fireworks. This goes on until about 3 or 4 the next morning.

For pet owners, that means about 16 hours of hell. Followed by sporadic bangs over the next couple of weeks, causing even more stress.

I was honestly expecting, "Bah, humbug!" :D

I only have myself to buy cool toys for, and it's not quite the same

Though I do forget what I've ordered half the time and go, "Ooooh!" anyway
