I remember this comedian from when I was a child. Hadn't heard much from him in recent years, probably retired. Sad day.
I didn't think he had retired despite being 90 Mind you, he was known for marathon performances (lasting for several hours) so I guess he may have been flagging a bit.
When they were talking it about this on the BBC news this morning one of his throw away lines made me LOL: "Oh, what a great day, what a great day it is to stick a cucumber through a letterbox and yell "Help! The martians have landed""

He was one of the greats. One of his performances was broadcast a few months ago during BBC 4’s run of The Good Old Days. I think I liked him more as a kid than I did as I got older.
He's been a household name for my entire life. That takes some talent.
They were saying on the news that his sets were hours long. Sometime up to five hours long. Sure, he had breaks and guests, but that’s a serious amount of value for money considering most will give you an hour or so WITH support acts on top. He kept a log of what made people laugh in different parts of the country so he could tailor his act to suit.
