Doesn't look too bad. Then again, I liked some of the BvS trailers.

I'd have more faith if Cameron had made a good film since, er, True Lies? And hadn't backed Terminator Genysis?

He's just the latest old skool director who wants to play with the new toys and increase his bank balance before he shuffles off. Spielberg, Scott, Jackson...

Only reason I want the tie in with '79 is to tie off the gangrene that is Covenant. Then the over reliance on David can fcuking end and we can get back to realistic OTHER characters. And keep Ridley the fcuk away from all of it. Whatever he had with Prometheus he just straight up abandoned. Twat.

I long for the days where I’d go to Calamity Comics in Harrow in the 1980s, and buy the Dark Horse Aliens books (one must be would be worth a lot more now if I hadn’t read it to death) - they followed Hicks and Newt, and somehow fed into the story of the creatures without cocking about with human/robot intervention. Some of those could have made some very good sequels to Aliens if filmed by someone competent.

Covenant did things that surprised me, but not in a plot or visual way - really, Scott, is that what you’re doing now? That? It seemed like he was making the kinds of mistakes that film makers several decades his junior would make (the two Davids thing, that punchline at the end). It kind of bounced along fairly well, but I really don’t like the whole “character has a double - which one is it now” thing, and David being the originator of the creature seems far too facile and easy.

Dark Horse do great omnibus editions of the Aliens stuff. I have those and some of the original graphic novels, plus the Alien comicbook from 79.

Covenant must be the laziest film Scott ever made. Unfortunately the whole mythos will suffer for it. If you've made an Alien film that makes Resurrection look good...

That's why I laugh at the utter twats saying things like 'It's his vision!', or 'He should be the one to finish it.' It's just an objectively bad film, but some people have

Hyped it to all hell before release
Would never admit that their persona is getting in the way
Fear a backlash, so it's easier to lie about it

Covenant is like a SyFy film that ripped off previous Alien tropes.

Cameron only makes movies now to fund his undersea explorations, so his involvement doesn't mean sh1t really.

Miller managed to fall out with the Deadpool team when they tried to keep things simple.

And bringing Arnie back? No pun intended. They need to let him go ffs. Fannying about with established lore? Hello, Ridley, George...

Pacific Rim: Uprising.

I liked the first one but this one looks like Power Rangers on steroids.

I see Blade Runner 2049 is about as popular as a kick in the balls.

I'm reading all the problems I had with the first; needlessly ponderous, little plot, too long with little happening etc. A lot of the published critics love it of course... And those who hyped it with little reason are saying things like, 'This doesn't mean the public are against smart movies.' When those who didn't enjoy it weren't arguing that at all!

I hate the modern trend for pretending something that's inherently problematic is ok because it fits into a particular box and SOMEONE will enjoy it. I'm not arguing against subjectivity, I'm saying lets stop pretending we're enjoying dross. We're just storing up trouble.

All that said, I reserve judgement until Netflix has it, heh.

Strange. I've seen a lot of positive reviews. Will go if I can catch it in 3D.

I know a lot of critics like (embarrassingly so) it but I wonder if that's as much a case of not wanting to look like idiots if it turns out to be slow burner the original was in terms of popularity. I don't know anyone who's actually seen it themselves yet.

I've heard nothing but good things about it, and I plan to see it one night soon, as I'm stuck in Bournemouth for the next two weeks

Saw the new Star Wars trailer(s) last night.
They almost made it look like Luke wants to get rid of the Jedi.
There's also hints that Kylo will turn Rey, or Rey will turn Kylo.

It's going to be epic.
