Hi,
I've got a RAID array, which is made up of 4x3TB drives, set up as a RAID 5 array.
I'm getting errors in the log, basically telling me that drive 1 may be on the way out. I checked because the transfer speed dropped like a stone, and I was having trouble streaming videos.
My question is, since I have to replace the drive, if I put in a 4TB drive then replace the rest of the 3TB drives, one at a time, as funds permit, with 4TB drives, will the array magically rebuild itself to use the full space available, once all of the drives have been swapped?
Or will I have to back up my data then manually build a new array?
Thanks in advance.
Edit to add: I did gracefully shut down unit before I went to work, on the off-chance that it's just pissed off about something and turning it off and on again might help. I doubt it will, but it's worth a shot...
