The general slow down of work. It’s troubling. I put in quite a few quotes last year for various jobs where I would be sub-contracting for another company. None seem to have gone past the “client is thinking about it” stage. Another client seems to be way behind their usual timetable of events - which means that they’ve missed that window between Christmas and the start of the trade fair rounds that they do.
So, I guess, I had better start to think about what Plan B should be. It’s troubling to come to that conclusion, but expect I’ll either need some kind of part time job to tide me over, or I jack in this lark and do something else. Just not sure what.

I'm in the same boat. Much of my day to day illustration work has been outsourced to India. How can you compete against people who are happy to work for about £1 a day?

Two things. Top of the Pops 1981 has some very mixed feelings for me. I got pretty ill then - I was off school for over a term with glandular fever, and I was pretty much isolated to one room for a month or so. All the music that programme is pumping out is from that time - early - mid 1981. John Lennon, Boondie, Ultravox's Vienna. Adam and the Ants' Young Parisians has been mentioned, and it's only a matter of time before Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits appears. I had the radio in for a lot of the time, and that is what was playing on Radio 1's play list. I should be looking back at that music more positively. I like it, but it's tinged bad memories.
The other things is 30 years ago tomorrow (29th January), Ingot tipped off my bike by a car ands lent 3 days in hospital with concussion, stitches and a very uncomfortable nose. Hospital talk was, obviously, about the space shuttle.
So a funny old time in my mind tonight.

50mph winds and horizontal rain. The drive home from work should be interesting.

I was thoroughly amused by a bit on the BBC News this morning. As usually happens some poor reporter had been despatched to stand in the weather so people could see how bad it was. The poor woman was standing on the beach near Salcoats in Ayrshire nearly being blown of her feet. However, the bit that got me was when she said that the schools in Orkney and Shetland had been closed and they're quite hardy up there so you know it's serious. Driving to work down the A1 this morning was certainly more noticeably sideways than normal.

Saw that, there really was no call for the girl to be put through that.

From the bit I saw while having breakfast, ITV had decided to subject Laura Tobin to it as well, she was barely staying on her feet.

A job I applied for in November, I've had two 'holding' emails but nothing more. They've readvertised because they didn't have enough candidates, so I guess I have to wait until the new closing date before I hear anything else.

Time for a Linux refresher. Here we go...!
Centos installed. Next up, Debian, for comparative purposes. But first... sleep!

Was stood up on a date on a saturday - no excuse given, no response to a friendly 'Hope everything's ok?' message on Facebook (after all, I don't know why she didn't turn up, there could be a very good reason.) Wait for her to get in touch or attempt to make contact again?

Wait, if only cos you could be the guy asking awkward questions during a death in the family or something, worst case scenario. Though I'd totally understand wanting to know the 'why'.

Don't contact again. If she was a nice person she'd have made the effort
