HR are chasing me to provide more details on a sickness day I had in March. I told them I had a GP call and was referred for tests but still not happy. Maybe I should drop the words infertility and miscarriage into the email, that'll stop them acting like [LIFTED]

I thought I'd seen something (think it might have been BBC Click at the weekend) which suggested Everest may have dropped by a meter rather than an inch.

Given my experience of HR, sometimes they just don't care.

Over one day? Unless you'd had loads of sickness in the build up I don't see why they'd require so much?

It's a joke to me how companies treat some things, I bet when a director has a sick day he doesn't have to provide a note from his doctor's dog.

they've introduced a dropdown menu so they can monitor exactly what symptoms you have when. Noone in their right mind would write depression. It also does not have a choice of " acute episode from a chronic condition".

Do they have 'Other'? I know there's a lot of workplace stigma around mental health issues but depression is a recognised medical condition and can be work related or aggravated by work. If someone's work is driving them into the ground but they won't say what the problem is then the situation is unlikely to get any better. Having said that, I also appreciate there's a huge amount of fear about such things and depending on the condition it can be hard, if not impossible to stick your head above the parapet. Acute episode from a chronic condition is a tricky one as it can cover a pretty massive list of things so I appreciate why it's not an option but there should be some way to properly record such things. Do you have an occupational health function? Might be able to deal with it through them if you do.

There was land about 10 kilometres from Khatmandu which rose by a meter. Everest was apparently too far East to have been affected to that sort of level, but there's also evidence suggesting that the whole of Khatmandu moved three meters southwards. There's some truly scary data from the aftermath of the 'quake. Mark

Is there a way to disable the transparency of the taskbar in FAIL 8? I don't want to be messing around with freeware or reg edits since it's a relatively new laptop.
What's really annoying is I somehow fixed the problem by accident a while back!

Haven't fixed it, but I've had a better idea in hiding the taskbar altogether when browsing... Also, as the uncle of an autistic child, I really hope Katie Hopkins meets the right/wrong person in the street sometime soon. No amount of 'army training' is stopping that attack. I totally get that she's a professional troll. But her 'success' relies on her getting worse each time, until even the press will have to kill the golden goose. We're talking about a woman sick enough to make targets of variously disabled children and adults, even those close to death. And wtf is wrong with the amount of women willing to defend her? 'She says what people are thinking' and 'She starts a debate'. Why do these people think she's in any way legitimate? If it's a skewed sisterhood thing, fcuking sort it out, frankly.

So in Australia I was a helpdesk person, then a team leader, then a manager, then a service delivery manager. I moved back to England and there isn't that sort of role locally to me, I also wanted to avoid commuting to London so I applied for some "low level" jobs, which is what I'm doing now, answering the phones at an insurance company.
I've obviously let a few people (my TL and manager) know about my previous experience in the hope of progressing as quickly as possible back to a TL position (because being on the phones all day in this environment can be painful). Long story short yesterday I had an interview to move into the anti-fraud department as a TL, it was a big step to get the interview given I've only been here a couple of months and felt like it was an opportunity to impess.
Unfortunately I felt it went horribly and now it's playing on my mind, I'm usually quite confident in them but I felt pressured like it was a grilling - which seems unusual for an internal interview - and they seemed to want to question a lot about my previous experience, it was expected but it was almost like they didn't believe what I was saying. I had a few things in my head I specifically wanted to mention (as I'd been tipped by some current TL's here) and totally forgot to say. It also seemed weird that they pressured me so much because I would think normally it's people without management experience who go for these sort of roles. Anyway I've got to wait a week to find out but I'm not confident at all and it's given me a knock.
