Working on a video piece to be projected during the silence on the 11th of November at work. Taking some shots at a church service this evening of some veterans, standard bearers etc. It was basically the local Tory party at play. One of them got chatting to me, asked if I'd enjoyed the pipes and drums - which I had, they're awesome powerful instruments in a small church - and he came out with: "Ah, they do sound impressive. Reminds me of those wonderful Orange marches they have in Belfast." I suspect he'd never been up close to one. Secondly: An old soldier who was standard bearing was showing me his medals. He pointed one out and proudly told me it was '74, Bloody Sunday. I really don't know what to think.

I couldn't give a stuff about the historical politics behind them, but I like the sound of Orange parades up close! Bloody Sunday was '72

Going for a (minor) operation tomorrow and it's all I can think about. It's the being rendered unconscious bit I don't like the idea of.

I've been through it often enough. It isn't really a big deal, in fact it is a bit of a rush as you go under. When you wake up again you are generally pumped full of pain killers, so you don't feel anything (other than groggy). In the last few years I've had calcium build-up removed from both heels, the first time with a local, the second time with local and then something to make me sleep.

I can empathise. I had similar concerns when I had a GA about a year ago. I was more stressed out by the thought of the GA than I was about the procedure. It wasn't so much the unconscious bit so much as never waking back up. TBH if the anaesthetist does their job, you won't even know you've fallen asleep. I remember being awake and the anaesthetist chatting away and then nothing. I remember waking up in the recovery room feeling groggy and disorientated. I could have sat up but I decided to rest for a few minutes. It did take me an hour before I was fully alert and orientated.

I went under GA and woke up disoriented and tried getting up and bent a needle at 90* in the crook of my elbow, blood everywhere :s

Hmmm. Just heard a sizeable explosion here in Orpington (SE London/Kent). I was just coming in through the front door about 4:45 when this percussive explosion went off and I could feel the ground shudder. It brought a few people out, but there's no sign anything serious has happened. No smoke or sirens. Weird.

Ferrari's invitation-only supercar Well I haven't had my call from Ferrari. Bit of a slip-up in the marketing department there. More here. This from someone who couldn't tell which end was the front for a moment!
