Trek for me, and I can happily watch that at home.

Although I really enjoyed fast five, star trek is the only one I want to see at the cinema .

Two for me. Trek I will see at the cinema, and Gatsby will be one to watch later. The others do not appeal to me.

I think that she would be a good choice. Who will be the others?

They only need one 'star' maybe, can't be any worse than Alba was.

She looked great but you are right she could not act her way out of a paper bag, and after her rant about the parts she was offered I do not remember her in much since.

Any of the movie buffs ever heard of this? (not a movie, an actual test)

The Bechdel test

The Bechdel test

Not heard of it, and it's quite surprising. I mean, I'd expect the likes of Die Hard 1, 2, 3, 4... to fail but when every other film seems to be a chick-flick :?

It actually makes me wonder, how many of these films fail because they simply don't have any meaningful dialogue at all?

Also, who chose the list of films? The films featured in the article are mostly geeky with largely male casts. Although... Hmmm... looking at what's on at my local cinema right now, perhaps there aren't as many chick-flicks as I thought

Have heard of it, and I wonder about it's relevance outside feminist theory.
Would films be better if they passed the Bechdel test?
http://www.imdb.com/list/KrJ6Zy1aZIs/ - is a list of movies that pass.

Some good ones in there.

Would Top Gun be a better movie if it wasn't all about the homoerotic relationship between the pilots?
The same goes for Point Break, the Fast & Furious franchise, and Lethal Weapon series.

I like Point break, die hard and most pure action movies. However I think it is laziness from the writers not to develop female characters more in these. Alien for example is a movie that is "men's interest" with strong female characters.

There's an inference that the male roles are somehow better defined and more complete, when I really don't think this is necessarily the case.
How well rounded is, say, Han Solo?
Laziness in character development isn't exclusive to female characters in the films mentioned, it's more of a malaise throughout a lot of those stories.

Where the Bechdel test really shines is as an way to illuminate the fact that film making is still very male dominated thing - there aren't as many female script writers, producers and directors working in the industry as men, and (I may be perhaps a little lazy here) but I suspect a lot men simply don't know how to write for women in a convincing way without leaning on several cliches.
